  1. I love to be disappointed in Filip's speech. Marco was losing the room and life without that "support" is terrifying, so Filip has to psyche everyone back up with "There's no turning back now", or else what was all the abuse for in the first place?
Also, if you're feeling swashbuckling political drama withdrawals after the finale, I humbly throw Black Sails' hat into the ring!

  2. When Amos confronted Holden the fact that Holden got mad and defensive is a sure sign he knows it was wrong. Literally thousands of people will have to die to save his relationship. There's the whole Marco/Hitler theory that Ty put out there but, there's no getting around Holden FU(|{€|} UP IN A COLOSSAL WAY!!!! Can't go further without spoilers.

  3. The reason why the Expanse has so many good Female Characters is because… I mean they don't. They have so many amazing Characters, that happen to be Female.
I don't think there is a single thing that would change if you genderswap EVERYONE, which in my eyes is one of the only ways you can write a good character…

  4. I always found the harpoon scene with the spun-up containers as kinda ridiculous. They all would have been severely injured if not killed when they smacked the containers at 60mph. That could've been done better.
The next scene when they cut off Joseph's arm. Why didn't they just move his body when they lifted the case?!?! Instead of leaving his arm under the case. This whole section must've been rushed through. Very sloppy. Although Michio and Walker kinda save it.

  5. At the Beginning of The Expanse, Amos is such a one dimensional character. When I first was introduced to Clarissa, I hate that women. Now Amos is one of the most complex characters and I love Peaches.

  6. Welcome back, Xander comments. 😂

The look on Filip's face, as he goes in to the corridor (after that speech): Made me think he knew his Father may be watching, so acted as was expected.

  7. I hope you listened/watched to episode of Ty & Guy with Vanessa Smythe (aka Michio), now you finished with The Expanse. It's recent one. Heck, I hope you have time for all of their episodes.

  8. I agree with you regarding Holden showing mercy. While it's fine that Marco dies, depending on the circumstances, his death won't necessarily solve much. He could easily be turned into a martyr and have a powerful influence long after his death.

And along with that, the actions that are taken to stop him will also live on

  9. What really bugs me about the Amos/Holden interaction here is that in the book Holden just comes clean with him. Holden says something like “I couldn’t process what killing Naomi’s son would do.” Amos is like “okay, but you need to talk to Naomi about this”
    The trust is unconditional.

  10. I wouldn't regret not killing Marco so much as i would regret all the people who may have lived if i had killed him, But that's the kicker with the road not taken so to speak, You never get to play out the other path and see what would have happened, Maybe letting him live is the better option. But given how much of this is being driven by his personal magnetism i can't believe that cutting off the head of this particular snake wouldn't be the best action.. 🤔

  11. What I love about Michio is that before this scene, we could believe that she was afraid of violence and that her mistakes were coming from a place of weakness. But now, we've seen that she is capable of a great deal of violence for someone's best interest and we realize that it never was a fear of violence. She was just unable to desire someone harm and take action to hurt them. The weakness is suddenly rebranded as a moral high ground and it changes our perception of everything that happened before.

  12. Woo you finally got to hear my favorite little speech/quote of the entire series! Amos' "I am that guy" was my favorite line of probably any series I had watched up to that point. Then this episode came along, and Drummer's "Live shamed, die empty" took the top spot forever. One of many reasons Amos and Drummer are almost tied as my favorite character in any show.

  13. I view philip’s speech at the end as:
    – him thinking Naiomi disarmed the warhead. This makes him feel guilty, angry and conflicted about what he’s done, and which side he’s on. Marco told him his mother abandoned him, that she and the rocinante crew are the enemy. But now he thinks at least one of them saved him.
    – this conflict manifests in him lashing out, and trying to convince himself just as much as the others with the speech. As he walks out of the room, his facial expression doesn’t give me the vibe he really believes what he says. He’s in denial that he’s on the wrong side.

Fully agreed on the looks though!

  15. I'm not sure it was the right thing. I can see how it was the right thing for Holden and Naomi… also Filip. But this is a system wide war. The leader of the enemy is disabled in front of you and unwilling to surrender to you. Killing Marco there would scatters the factions, it would cause a power struggle within the remaining free navy as independent factions attempt to control what remains and the war would end rapidly. For our characters, it was the right thing to do for the story and character building… but Amos is right, they could have ended the war there.

Without Marco, the belt is too divided and doesn't have an alternative leader now thanks to Marco. Fred or Dawes could have taken the reins but alas…

The war really could have been decided when Bobby pushed that button. Holden has kept it going. Filip has been led astray for sure by his father and shown the wrong path. But Filip has not hesitated in his actions so far, he's done bad when Marco was not there to pressure him. He didn't hesitate to fire on the Roci. It is what it is and it's awfully sad for Naomi, but Holden chose to protect two over billions.

  16. Why are my posts about Star Citizen getting deleted? If I can't discuss it here, where can I show you some cool screen shots of the game? You love space stuff. I think you would love this game. I don't understand why showing a tweet is in violation of any rules here.

  17. Holden has said that every time he goes through a ring, the Orange Grunge seems angrier. He thinks use of the rings as a whole is what's waking them up.
They're dead as far as I can tell.

Marco is wasteful. (see just throwing out Marian food and wasting his Belter built ships in the campaign while relying on the ones rogue Martians sold him for the protomolecule sample that went to Laconia) He steals food, air, fuel, and water from his people without care for them and their suffering at his hand. He starts fights and leaves others holding the bag.

It doesn't matter that it was an accident. That, "we'll have to be more pure than Mars." and, "we won't have a civilian world to cushion us." on the Barkief? That wasn't just pretense. This is a military junta bent on making Laconia's new occupying military as lean and mean as possible. Likely intending to also make the entire society as inseparable from the military as possible. You screw up like this, and you're gone.

That, "Crazy Person," is Cortizar. The foremost living expert on Protomolecule.

She can either disobey orders, or lead an attack into a probably trap. And if the former, someone else will likely take her place for the latter.

Naomi is telling everyone which ship to kill.

We miss the character, not the actor.

Dear old dad didn't teach Filip how to repair things, only how to sneak and break.

Do not joke around with munitions.

Marco didn't have time to construct a bung of proper stations, so he set up all these cargo pile counterweights. One of the few things he is good at is orbital mechanics. Mind you, I'm sure other people did the calculations for the individual caches and the work to physically set them up, he probably just made the concept and some preliminary general calculations.

Michio has her strengths. Not many people could do a field amputation on a lover.

The med gel to regrow is expensive though, but prosthetics are also an option.

    Fortunately, t hey were supplied.

    YOU TELL HIM, DRUMMER!

    Fillip is thinking….

"Live shamed, and die empty." MM MM MMMMMMM!

Fillip isn't necessarily happy about fighting Drummer and her raiding the supplies, but he recognizes that this is the bed they've collectively made. These are the consequences of the war he helped start, so if they truly care about the cause, they have to face this with open gun ports. He's realizing that other belters will fight, kill, and die to see the Inaros name and faction cast down. That it doesn't matter if the cache was raided by an Earther, Martian, or Belter team. ALL are their enemies. In the past, stealing so many supplies for needy belters would have gotten them to buy drinks for Camina, but no more. They are why those belters are in need. Camina did something heroic and helpful, but she is gunning for them. Though there may be ways out for the less devoted who question the outcome. Desertion and/or defection.

Marco is a bad Belter. Dawes taught us that "The more you share, the more your bowl will be full." Naomi and Drummer place high value on ingenuity and improvisation. Naomi did a vacuum transition without a vac suit. Drummer has now stolen supplies from an oppressor. Ashford gave medical aid and his own blood without care of birthplace while everyone was in danger. He also was a bold pirate who took food for the needy when times were truly lean/ Marco is a bad belter by the measures of their society. Drummer, Ashford, and Naomi, all exemplify the traits praised by Belter society. Compassion, charity, resourcefulness, ingenuity daring, etc.
We knew that Marco was a bad person, but he has demonstrated that some of the highest virtues of his people are his lowest priorities, though is people are even lower.

This looks like it's the Roci's point of view. Her security cameras and diagnostics.

The Roci' may not be sentient, but we've seen that the automation is exceptionally advanced.

  18. The greatest problem with this season was it was filmed during lockdown. It really did cut down on what they were able to film. Wes commented that this was his least favorite season to film since they were really restricted on how many of the cast they were able to hang out with at any one time. I assume it also probably restricted how many people they could bring in for any filming. The season is still amazing. Thank you for the time you put into this.

  19. You noted the "different structure" of the season, and that's insightful.
The production company asked Amazon to fund 10 or 12 episodes but said they could make do with eight.
    They got six episodes.
So, they had to pare the story down to the bone, and it comes across as a bit disjointed.

As an FYI, the sixth novel has extensive scenes with Anna and Prax, and they wanted to put some of that in this season.

  20. re: firing squad for the driver who hit Xan – a hint that the society these guys are trying to build here is a heavily authoritarian fascist one. you might recall in the very last scene of season 5 Sauveterre said that on Laconia "dishonorable discharge will be a bullet…or worse." read the last three books if you want to find out what the "or worse" means.

  21. 4:17 If you look closely at the "ship" shown on Marco's screen in the last episode passing the Ring from the Laconia system to the Ring Space Station, it does not have the typical propulsion in the form of a large Epstein drive, but several much small propulsion plumes such as from tug boat drones we've seen salvaging the Nauvoo a few seasons back. There are also some clues in its heavily abbreviated name displayed on screen as to what it might be. 🤫

  22. in the earlier episode where Michio first introduces herself to Walker, she mentions she has a field medic certification. I remember watching that episode when it first aired and thinking, welp, that's gonna be important soon

The Xray of Clarissa was so very good. You ever think that you would get emotional over her?

  24. Holden's decision to not destroy the Pella was a not a great tactical decision, the war would have been shortened if the command ship and leadership was taken out right there. A rare mistake for him, especially since he did it for purely personal reasons. Besides, it was Draper who fired the missile.

  25. Filip for me was kinda tough for me to figure out at this point. I think he was learning some valuable lessons when just being a repairman and working with "the lower class". The raid on the supply depot was cool and I like to think to them prepping it but they were waiting on Marco. But Marco was delayed due to his fight with the Roci and that allowed Drummer to take it. Yah for Michio stepping up in a big way, not to mention graphic!

  26. I was listening to you talk about Clarissa and started wondering what facilitated her shift in personality. Obviously, she explains in this episode why she decided not to kill Holden but she has completely let go of her need for revenge for her dad. And I think it's because she was obsessed with getting her dad's approval but now she has Amos whose approval she wants, but also he is giving it to her. He's super supportive of her, stands up for her, cares for her, looks out for her, etc. So I feel like there is no hole in her heart that her dad left her with anymore, and that's how she can completely move on from her hatred for Holden. And we see that she's actually quite similar to her sister when she's not being traumatized by her absent, love-withholding asshole dad.

Edit: also what you're saying at the end reminds me of the eulogy episode of Bojack Horseman (S5E6) where he talks about his relationship with his distant, abusive mom. "She's dead and everything is worse now." Because as bad as things were when she was alive there was the hope it could all somehow get fixed. And when she died, that hope died with her.
