  1. I watched this at the cinema by myself and in my young 20's. I had heard various comments by individuals who had already seen the movie, and one of the main comments was to see it during the day, as you will leave the cinema in daylight instead of at night when it would be dark. I took that advice to see it during the day and glad I did. There were plenty of screaming during the film, not by me.

  2. Just make sure at no point while watching this you think of the Devil. As long as you do that, you’ll be fine. Remember do not think about Satan, Lucifer, The Devil! Enjoy 😈

  3. This was one of the few horror movies that were nominated at the Oscar’s .Almost all of the actors were nominated. Jason miller was the one who played damien Karras , this is his first movie and he was nominated for an Oscar . This is one of the reasons why it’s so iconic . It won best screenplay and rightfully so because the screenwriter is the author who created the exorcist. The Exorcist is not only the greatest horror movie , it’s one of the greatest movies of all time

  4. After watching this flick you'll definitely wanna make sure the lights are on in the house if you are alone at night for a week….or until you'll get over your anxiety. No shame in my game….I did….

  5. I can't believe it's been 50 years. As a teenager I saw this on opening weekend in New York City. We waited in line for 3 hours and sat in the first row. Scared the crap out of me! No other movie had special effects like this in 1973.

  6. Great reaction. The public response to this film when it first came out cannot be exaggerated. People were fainting, some had seizures, some ran from the theater only to come back for the next showing to try finish watching the film. There had been nothing like it before and audiences were horrified. You can find documentaies about the audience recation on YouTube now. While it is not based on a true story, the author of the novel, William Blattey, based a lot of his book on phychological case files and many of the things the 'posessed' girl does are real. Like projectile vomiting, unusual strenth, talking in foreign tongues and automatic writing ( where words pop up on the victims skin.) So the reason it is more effective than other posession films is because it has a strong sense of realism. Also the strong sexual componant of the posession is something other films don't portray.

  7. These two seem to "get it" a lot more than a lot of other reactors to this film. Those that are only familiar with "jump scare" horror movies and the depth of this one seems to go over their heads. Glad these two appreciate the drama and craftmanship of "The Exorcist".

  8. Interesting Facts about The Exorcist (1973) (1) Marlon Brando was the studio's first choice to play the old priest, Father Merrin, in The Exorcist (1973), before the role went to Max Von Sydow, who was only 44 at the time. (2) There is a real serial killer in the 1973 movie "The Exorcist" His name's Paul Bateson (born August 24, 1940) He's an American convicted murderer and former radiographer. He appeared as a radiologic technologist in a scene from the 1973 horror film The Exorcist, which was inspired when the film's director, William Friedkin, watched him perform a cerebral angiography the previous year. The scene, with a considerable amount of blood onscreen, was, for many viewers, the film's most disturbing scene Medical professionals have praised it for its realism. (3)The infamous 'Spiderwalk' scene from The Exorcist (1973) was NOT in the original cut. It was added 25 years later with the anniversary DVD release. (4) When The Exorcist premiered in December 1973, it was a major cultural event with people of all ages waiting in long lines to see the film. Many of the film goers were not ready for the subject matter in the movie, causing many people to walk out or faint including Paul Mooney and Richard Pryor.

  9. This terrified people in the 70s. Especially the ones who watched it under the influence of things. The movie used subliminal flashes to be scarier.
This was loosely based on an actual event.

  10. How many OTHER horror movies from almost 50 years ago still affect people in 2022? I'll wait, lol. Not that many, and this classic still holds up today. But AVOID EXORCIST 2…THE SEQUEL IS TERRIBLE.

  11. I know you won't read all these comments because most will say the same thing. I probably saw this on TV (so, cursing and most bloody bits edited out) around 1980,when I was around 14 years old. I was horrified just like you, so, watching your reactions was great fun.
Isn't that a horrifying movie? The original 3 Omen movies were really scary too, in a different kind of way.
I'm mostly over reaction videos, but this one was great.

  12. This movie is based upon a true story. William Blatty, who wrote the book, while he was at Georgetown University, came upon the journal of the priest who assisted in the actual exorcism that was done by Father William Bowdern of a teenage boy in the 1940's….

  13. Linda Blair (Reagan) actually suffered an injured back from the flopping up and down on the bed scene. If you research the movie, there were alot of strange things going on during the filming as well. I watched this movie when I was like 7 years old, and it scared the sh** out of me. I have it on DVD now, and it STILL scares me, makes me paranoid, and have bad dreams. One of my all time favorite movies.

  14. TRUE STORY ABOUT OUIJA BOARD.
When I was around 8 years old I had a nightmare and woke up but because we were put to bed early (around 8:30PM) it was only about 11PM and my parents were still up downstairs.
So I went down stairs and found them playing on Ouija board. I didn't know what it was back then and they sort of just joked it off.
However after that I started hearing really heavy breathing in bed like somebody was standing right over me. It got really scary as a kid.
One night my mum and dad had friends around and sent us to bed early as usual but when I was putting my pyjamas on the breathing came right down my ear. I got so scared that I ran out of the room and usually if I went out of the room it stopped but tis time it followed me out of the room.
So I ran downstairs trying to put my pyjamas on and it followed me down the stairs.
When I got into the living room my mum and dad and their friends were just watching TV and having drinks (I can still remember what they were watching and this was around 50 years ago. (A show called The good old days)
They brushed it off as a nightmare but my older brother heard it to sometimes. Eventually it just stopped but I will never forget it.
I wouldn't touch one for anything now, not even for laughs.
There is a lot more to this but people would think I was making it up so I will leave at that, and anyway it is a private family thing.

  16. Halloween 1980, I was 16 years old. My local cinema put on a movie double bill starting at midnight, a new horror film called Friday The 13th and The Exorcist.
Me and my friend then had to walk home at about 4am, it was about 3 miles and I had to do the last mile or so on my own, in the pitch black across some fields.
I don't think I've ever walked so fast.
