The Evolution Of Military Combat Bombers | History Of The RAF | Spark

By the end of the First World War the RAF had bombers that could fly to Berlin and back. For the first time in a thousand years British civilians found themselves under direct attack – by Zeppelin airships and Gotha bombers. The experience left an indelible impression on the public psyche, which was only exacerbated during the Blitz that began in the winter of 1940.

The RAF’s maritime role is often overlooked. Between the wars the RAF operated elegant flying boats to patrol the far flung corners of the Empire. During the Second World War, air sea rescue of downed pilots and air crews was a vital role. Large flying boats like the Short Sunderland and PBY Catalina flew long missions far out over the oceans, looking for enemy submarines.

  1. Imagine being there at that time. During the world wars. All those civilian casualties. So sad. Now imagine what the world is like now. The civilians. The common ppl. I’m again a world at war. God forbid. But I seriously doubt that ppl of today and how the worlds culture is and how mentally weak ppl are. How we are so spoiled. Not sure if the world will ever recover. The rapture will happen before

  2. We had few thousand casualties last conflicts. WW1. Had over 9 million. Imagine that. Dropping bombs on cities. Wrong targets. And they said had to destroy the entire city to shut down weapons factories. But all the innocent ppl/civilians. Just think about that. How will the ppl react today
