The Entire Universe 6 Saga | Dragon Ball Super Manga

Following the events of the Battle of Gods Arc and Resurrection of Frieza, Goku and Vegeta continue their training on Beerus’ Planet, until another Destroyer and his attendant arrive. Coincidentally, this Destroyer, now known as “Champa”, is Beerus’ twin brother, and hails from the “Sixth Universe”. The Saiyan duo learn of the 12 Universes in total, and Champa challenges his brother to a battle of culinary delights, which he loses and questions where Beerus got his food. Upon learning it’s from a Planet called “Earth” in the “Seventh Universe”, the Gods of Destruction decide to hold a team battle featuring selected warriors from their respective universes, with the grand prize being claiming the Earth that loses! Champa also reveals the secret of the “Super Dragon Balls”, and says he’ll hand them over to Beerus should he win the tournament. With the Earth riding on a “low-stakes” battle between brothers, Goku, Vegeta, and the others prepare to test their limits against the formidable opponents of Universe Six!

  1. Yeah, the anime is surprisingly fun and memorable, but for me the mange totally blows it out of the water too:
    I'm 1000 years old.
Yeah? But you hide your hands in your pockets, feet under the coat and all to mask your movements, right?

Manga does a lot better job (which is a nice way of saying 'gives a damn at all') of highlighting that Goku is a seasoned master of martial arts who can calmly workout an impossible opponent from another universe in minutes. In this, he much mirrors many of his previous masters, which is ultimately expressed later during the universe tournament, when he first awakens to the ultra instinct omen few chapters later. Even a god of destruction required an explanation of how in the ever loving fu*k is this dumbass able to outclass Hit in every aspect in his god form, while Vegeta couldn't put a dent in him, transformed in to his SSJG form.
For me, the fight Goku vs Hit in the manga, is like a nod to DB's "tournament saga days" narratively, to showcase in a few, brilliant and sharp panels, just how ridiculously experienced, interdimensionally and intergalactically trained by divine beings Goku is at this point in the story. Meanwhile, in the anime he's mostly fooling around and miraculously breaks his ceilings by sheer will power…

  2. I'd say the one thing the manga did superior to the anime was Cabba vs. Vegeta in their base forms. Cabba was putting on quite a good show here before their hair changed color!

The anime reasoning for Goku quitting against Hit as a way to stick it to the gods for being pawns in their petty game felt far more refreshing (along with that Goku told Beerus that even if he hadn't stepped out of the ring; his body was on the verge of giving out due to Kaio-Ken Blue) than him simply doing it just to see Monaka fight. Yeah, it still seems like a Goku thing to do. However, I think the anime wins out.

Kaio-Ken Blue Times 10 was THE defining moment that brought fans into Super. After two arcs retelling the films, it was finally time to show fans that Super was NOT to be slept on!

  3. 😂 I love how the manga doesn’t really give justice to these tournaments. Unlike the anime where the battles longer and give each universe a chance to shine. Yes I’m aware the manga came after the anime did and yes, I am also aware we got fights in the manga that we didn’t get in the anime but I still find it a bit funny how different the two are.
