Okay I just need to impress upon people how terrible YouTube's notification system is, I'm subscribed and a member of the channel and while I did get the notification 30 min ahead of this stream I didn't get the notification for the stream itself until right now. Meaning after the stream ended, 6 hours later.

  2. See, this is why I'm glad Skyen is posting the raw streams, I would have missed his opening rant on themes otherwise.

Personally, I'm really bad at seeing anything beyond surface level, but that's a lot of what makes Skyen's videos interesting for me.

  3. I had to suffer Great Gatsby twice [failed the class], and we weren't taught any of that. all I got out of that book was Fitzgerald was an idiot about his wife – and not in a good way, how grotesquely hypocritical people tend to be and its "romance" subplot was toeing the line of tragic but fell flat on in face…

  4. the first time I ever got involved with analyzing a writing was with The Legacy of Drizzt by R. A. Salvatore. the fact that even in a fictional/fantasy world where the gods are REAL, they have an ACTIVE role in the shaping and movement of the world and the people that live there; you STILL need to consider the doctrine of your faith. you need to take time to analyze and determine if the doctrine of your patron deity is right FOR YOU. religion and faith aren't just a one-way street where you blindly accept everything, but really consider if your patron god telling you to kill these people or do these actions are MORALLY correct. if you follow these orders, are you going to hate yourself for doing the deed, or are you going to ignore the suffering you subject others to simply because "well, my god says it's okay, so I don't have to feel bad about it."

  5. One thing I wonder with the "Erdtree feeds on corpses"-thing is:
Does it need to feed on corpses?
If I remember, we learned that it is an "honor" to get buried beneath the Erdtree. So maybe its a religious thing and the Erdtree uses the nourishment because "its just there" but it doesn't have to.

In fact, yew trees were often planted at cemeteries or graveyards and feed on the corpses in the graves. But it doesn't mean, they exclusively grow there.

On the other hand you always have to ask yourself "Would the developers put it there, if it didn't had any meaning?"

  6. EDIT: got to the end of the vid and saw Skyen caught the issue. hope folks get a chuckle at the Cromulon bit, at least. ^^

I'm sorry if this comes off as rude, but if you're not gonna have subtitles on, could you at least increase the dialogue volume? I can barely hear anything with my volume maxed then your voice pops out like a Cromulon to blow out my eardrums…

  7. About the Asmongold saying that the game doesn't overtly send a message. Can it really be said it us entirely untrue when him making a statement like this indicates that you need a level of education to find the message? Like I would bet that the majority of people don't realise what messages are being told in the game. So even if it is completely overt for you, if it isn't for many players can it practically be called that. It is just the thought I had while listening to the rant. I understand the themes are not subtle but shouldn't thay evaluation be based on the audience it's targeted at? I don't know maybe I just wrote a useless message, anyway thank you for the stream.

  8. Actual gameplay starts around 13:00

Also as a side note, apparently the VOD has holes in it, and skips in a few places. No idea why that happens, but as far as I know my recorded footage is unaffected so… yay me, I guess.

  10. I have a lot of resentment to school analyses. Because school sucks, because the time constraints sucks because they often ask the most inane shite.
But lord. I adore analysis. Its why I took art as a subject! Lots of analysis in that, and you need to get down to the bone.
Dont ask me about the curtain. Ask me about the whole room. Give me something of substance.

And Gamers TM are stupid by choice. They refuse to engage with art on any level. Just no thought behind those eyes.
Fromsoft beats you over the head with their politics. Tramples you into the ground with them. And I love it.
But Gamers TM will just ignore it OR complain that games are being ruined by those sjws
