The Digimon MMO You NEVER Knew About

Digimon Masters Online is a F2P tab target Digimon-controlling MMO that was released in 2009. I had never heard of the games existence until quite recently so i had to do a deep dive and see if the game is worth trying in 2024.

  1. Always liked Digimon but unfortunately never got into it
Waydot got a point that it's a part of many's childhood, yet it wasn't nearly as popularized as we as pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh.

  2. I knew about this game since early 2010s because it has the same publisher as one of the MMOs I play (Silkroad Online)
Even though I knew about this game, i never knew the mechanics so thanks for exploring the game for us!

  3. Wow, I do not remember Digimon Masters Online feeling this… weird. I remembered always wanting to play this game as a kid, and the few times I did, I had a blast (before needing a password the next time I wanted to play that my mom never told me since my computer itself – not the game's login – always needed one to play it for some reason). It wasn't the best game in the world even back then, but it was alright for what it was and a sense of progression actually existed. The game still had issues like not explaining its mechanics well, but it treated itself as a proper MMO, fulfilling being a Digimon one at that.

But after watching this video, wow… It's like the devs just stopped caring and treated this game as if it's about to shutdown the following day.

  4. World of Warcraft has gone this route also, catering to new players, speed lvling them, and making stuff so easy the game isnt even fun anymore its just rush rush rush to the end.

  5. There is reason why people play DMW instead of DMO cause DMO sucks and has corrupted devs and its not f2p its very p2win. This is why people swich to Digimon masters world instead of Digimon masters online

  6. 1:44 They do updates pretty often, it used to be every 2 weeks, but apparently they switched the DMO and Super Rumble team because of how awful the game has been these last few years/how good Super Rumble apparently was (I guess compared to DMO), the last maybe 6 or so months the updates haven't been as consistent but have been better; There's an update later today that is expecting to bring either the increased max level+new maps or digital convergence that lets you
4:14 Apparently that's a very recent bug that started happening in the last week or two.
15:00 Those are likely people afking for the daily login items, 3 hours for weekdays / 4 hours for weekends.
15:30 It's more about that it's a digimon MMO, and also more about FOMO than actually wanting to play.
16:54 There's a sub-quest that gives 50 Inventory (And 20 Archives) at Dats, you can get it from the NPC you were talking to before (Richard Sampson) going to Silver Lake.
18:00 Yeah, that's a bot, bots are a huge problem in DMO and have made farming on maps nearly impossible as well as mostly pointless since most items value have dropped significantly over the years to the point they just aren't worth farming even if you can farm them.

  7. Actually it was a good time for me in this game when it was still on steam before they take it off, it was a little too grindy but good enough to keep me in, I still have it on my computer and need a proxy to connect to it and i can't upgrade it since im low on GB.

  8. I use to play this game back at the start. I even had a Japanese Account and played it there before its global launch. I loved this game more than anything. until it became a pay to win game after like 3 years of launch so sad… playing through the zones and leveling was so much of this game, boost ruins all of it.

  9. I played during closed beta, open beta, release and for years. I can tell you this is literally a shell of what it used to be. Leveling used to take way longer, the tutorial explained way more, no as many bots. some of my fondest memories of that game was farming a specific digimon with my buddy for weeks hoping to hatch a 5/5 digimon (which is essentially a bigger and stronger version of said digimon). When the first big raid dropped and we found out you could get the OG tamers as a drop from that raid it was a crazy time. But even back in the day it was always heavily P2W.

  10. Digimon Master was actually good when it came out back all those years ago. I played the game back when it first came out it had a cohesive story, the exp was fair no leveling up 20 times in the beginner area and the digimon in the beginning area where level 3 to level 15. The game is now own by a Chinese company and they messed with the entire code making the game too easy and boring.

  11. Great video! I'm new to the channel but not to DMO, I've been playing it on and off since 2011 and its very far from new player friendly. Also you happened to begin during a "Jumping Event" which basically super boosts your character with exp rubies, items, clothes, digimon etc. so you can catch up to other players more quickly, and that definitely adds to the confusion. However your final assessment is still correct, the game is lacking in many departments and is quite pay to win, and the botting issue is still quite bad, however there (somehow) really is quite the large player base still sticking around for nostalgia and sunk cost reasons

  12. You know what's funnier is that this ISN'T the only Digimon MMO. For the record, Digimon never disappeared or anything. The latest season of the anime wrapped up a little over a year ago, and there have been somewhat regular game releases, and, God willing, there's a new Digimon RPG that we've been hearing bits and pieces of, in development for some time now. Hopefully, in a few days' time, we'll actually hear well, ANYTHING Digimon-related from Bandai's panel at Tokyo Game Show.

  13. I'm confused, is this a private server or something? The last time I played this was years ago. But it took you months to get 1 level and let alone reach level 40 for example yet you did that in 10 or so minutes. I'm just a little confused. I checked on this a year or so ago and it still was like that if I remember.
