The Devil's Deal | Baldur's Gate 3 | Tiefling Wizard Playthrough | Part 28

Welcome to Part 28 of our first playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3- today we cross the bridge into yet another packed area before we enter the city. We head into the very “interesting” establishment known as Sharess’ Caress and find Raphael waiting for us with another one of his deals… Watch as we make the difficult decision of accepting or refusing a devil’s deal and prepare to actually enter the city of Baldur’s Gate!

Baldur’s Gate III is a role-playing video game developed and published by Larian Studios. It is the third main game in the Baldur’s Gate series, which is based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing system. BG3 has turn-based combat, similar to Larian’s earlier game Divinity: Original Sin II; but this time, it is based on the D&D 5th Edition rules.

  1. See I did trust Raphael, because he clearly isn’t bothering to mask much in this conversation. I didn’t take his deal, because he obviously wasn’t simply planning to unite the hells and sit on that power, but essentially as far as I could tell at that point, he was being honest. He just wasn’t detailing long term plans. He did conveniently tell me where the hammer was and how to get to hell in that conversation though…

  2. Adored your talking through your reactions as Raphael went through the options – I had exactly the same battle in my playthrough. So many thinga to think through, very intrigued to see what you choose to do and whether you take steps to get your own back on him – difficult path but leads to one of the most enjoyable encounters in the game, some of the best music and one of the best play on words by Larian ever 😉

  3. Raphael's deal is a really interesting one. Orpheus deserves to be freed and his re-emergence may spell freedom for the Githyanki. However, doing so would likely kill the Emperor, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Orpheus wouldn't harm you, given how Raphael's end of the deal depends on you living. Speaking of, the Netherese crown is an incredibly powerful artifact and it's not exactly safe in the hands of… well, anyone. At least with Raphael's deal it would never be used to dominate a mortal. Raphael's not good, but who is to say the Hells wouldn't be better off with him in charge?

On the face of it, the deal is a win-win, so why does it feel like one shouldn't take it? Well, Raphael is a devil. He's been interested in you since the beginning. He feigns it as aimple interest or curiosity, but I reckon it's fear. He wants to get ahead of something and lock you into the deal early, so that you couldn't turn on him later. That's my prediction, anyway. I could be entirely wrong, but I doubt Raphael is being fully honest.
