  1. I played Demon's Souls on PS3 at launch and believe that it is a masterpiece. I agree with all the points you've raised in your video. It was blatantly obvious when playing through the Tower of Latria that the entire atmosphere was just 'off'.

  2. I think the lack of the guy screaming was a good change, dying to the squids dude over and over again while lost in the level only to return to the checkpoint only to hear the mf screaming, like SHUT UP! I think it was more practical than anything else.

  3. You’re right on a few points, but in many others, it feels like you're nitpicking. Demon’s Souls was a early PS3 game, and with all the technical limitations, it wasn’t possible for FromSoftware to build the world in great detail. I mean, the game runs below 30fps and has significant frametime issues. I think the creative choices are fine and didn’t bother me at all. In fact, I replayed the original a few weeks ago and I don’t share your opinion at all.

  4. Omg like yall just want to complain about shit. "the plant overgrowth on the castle changes the atmosphere. The blue banners weren't in the original and changes the atmosphere. The Gothic style cathedral changes the story.". Like wtf are u talking about??? Nobody cares about souls' vague ass nonexistent over-complicated story dude it's all about the gameplay. The original was fine and the remake looks gorgeous. Yall complaining about a few added details and better graphics as if they completely changed the game. It's literally the same damn game. All this new age picking and crushing atoms and creating issues where there are none just to be objective ass attitude is so lame. And 600k+ ppl agree with this video. Smdh.

  5. I absolutely loved the original (my first Souls game) and I absolutely loved the remaster.

Being different doesn’t mean worse, most things were far better for me and honestly most of the negatives just seems like nit pickers desperate to be upset by things.

  6. As someone who is brand new to the Souls series, the originals have a distinct art and lighting design that is "just so". The remakes absolutely tossed this out the window, and between the two versions of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1, the originals are 20 times more appealing based on this simple fact. How is this not obvious to professional game designers

  7. It is sad that things didnt pan out perfectly, but by my estimation, fromsoft couldn’t or wouldn’t port demons souls because sony owns the ip. In my opinion, this remake at least brings attention to the original, which is often overlooked by dark souls and would have been forgotten to time otherwise. I for one remember being shocked that bluepoint was going to remake it and sony decided to resurrect the ip for a flagship ps5 launch title. A bold move that panned out nicely for them, even if it didnt sit well for purists. I think overall, i’d rather have this game exist to bring attention to the series’ oft overlooked original game.

  8. Main problem I think with these original vs updated is that they don't just bring the game to the modern era. They add things and change it "for the better" stop calling them remakes and call it a reboot. But if they did that, then they probably wouldn't get all the original demon souls fans money because we already don't trust you and your "artistic vision"

  10. Completely disagree. Remake was fantastic. Most of this just seemed like unimportant nitpicks. Fools idol looks like bad news in both versions and looks nothing like renalla. You kept using dumb screenshots for the remake while you used the info cinematic for the original. Idk why your getting so mad at that part lmao

  11. Working on a remake when making zero changes would be so boring. If FS didn’t want to remake it and gave another studio the opportunity to make it, let them have some freedom. I get the author prefers the original but the new one is fun too. Played both.

  12. Nuh-uh. They completely messed up environmental storytelling but when it comes to atmosphere, the remake is more Demon souls than demon souls. The shonen protagonist ruined the vibe and the lullaby makes everything haunting and tragic.

  13. I can't lie, this video feels too much like nitpicking. I agree that certain artistic changes were absolutely deliberate, and that the devs definitely went to make subjective "improvements" to things they thought they could do better. But you need to remember some things before we all jump on the bandwagon to criticize it:

    1. This is a remake, not a remaster. In a perfect world, remakes are created by devs and purchased by the consumer under the base assumption that the game has been remade from the ground up for the new generation of hardware and for players to experience. And frankly, as far as remakes go, Demons souls is one of the best ever made. It truly was "remade" for PS5, as nearly every single aspect of the game has been drastically updated in some shape or form. It's graphics, animations and art direction remain at the top of what the PS5 generation has managed to achieve (It still looks and runs better than most games on the console today, even among first party exclusives) If a remaster had made these changes, I think these criticisms would be more justified.

    2. The first game was an early PS3 title. So yes, map design such as that seen in Boletaria was minimalistic and elegant/pragmatic. But if you really look at World 1-1 in the remake, (as used as an example in the video), Boletaria still is elegant. It is still pragmatic (with the exception of the excess scaffolding). It's also VERY detailed. Perhaps even too detailed which is why it looks SO different. Perhaps the change to a more gothic vibe was a subjective interpretation made by Bluepoint's artists, and perhaps changes like that seen in the mausoleum changed Miyazaki's original vision of what the statue originally looked like. But it is also beautiful in it's own new way, while still remaining largely faithful to the other 99% of the map that doesn't take place in that area. Every level in the remake is drop dead gorgeous to look at, and frankly, they did as good a job as any non-Fromsoft studio could have possibly done. Especially without Miyazaki and Fromsoft's amazingly talented artists there to guide them.

    3. Latria does feel quite different. Maybe more so than other chapters. But even with the changes made to it's setting and atmosphere. It remains imposing, stressful, and terrifying in the remake; definitely not hopeful or cozy as described. The only thing I agree with wholeheartedly is that I also thought the lullaby was background music, lol. We need to remember that just because levels like Latria saw more changes than the other levels did, there is a difference between objectively bad changes made in poor taste, and changes that accomplish the same end goal, but in a new way.

All in all, I truly believe that Demons Souls is a phenomenal remake, and it's one of my favorite games on Ps5. Furthermore, Bluepoint is at the top of their game when it comes to remakes, as they now have two critically and consumer acclaimed ground up remakes under their belt (Shadow of the Colossus is the second). Remember this is the video game industry we're talking about here, and so often, remakes/remasters get so much more wrong than they do right, so I consider us very lucky it was Bluepoint at the helm for this one.

  14. The good thing is that we have both games. The original one for nostalgics and the remake for the ones (like me) that appreciate the original but understand that there's no reason to hate the remake that much. Instead of spreading hate, enjoy both games.

  15. If they're not going to change a few things than what's the point of "remaking" it. You talk as if they are taking down the original and putting this in its place, that's not true. They had complete freedom to do pretty much whatever they wanted with the remake and this is what they did. Is it as good or better, no. But they aren't committing a crime by doing it. Plenty of people will enjoy the remake much more than they could ever enjoy the original. And if you say its wrong to like the remake more than that's just being selfish. To say that "you can only enjoy a game the way I enjoyed it" is selfish. Demon souls will always be a thing you can play and if you don't like the remake there's no reason for you to play it ever again. But trying to take the joy away form people who did enjoy playing it is just selfish and unthoughtful.
