This was probably the least informative video about the crusades anyone could watch on YouTube and typical of modern simplistic and disregarding views on the past. No mention of the Seljuk Turk expansion into the lands of the Greek (Byzantine) Empire, no Frederick II (real chad who took Jerusalem with diplomacy), no Iberian Reconquista, no Baltic crusades (the ones the Nazis actually used as inspiration), no Albigensian crusade, no later crusades against the expanding Ottoman Empire, no mention of the cultural and commercial exchange that happened between East and West that era. Felt more like an elementary school presentation. You guys can do better.
I am a huge fan of this channel and have been for a long time, but this video is extremely biased amd inaccurate by the emission of the events that lead up to the crusades. These crusades did not happen in a vaccume.
The aggressive and relentless islamic expansion would have most likely led to the far earlier death of Byzantine empire and then the slow conquest, enslavement and possible eradication of the indigenious peoples of europe. The uniting of many european peoples against this is in itself a massive achievement and is unseen in history on this scale.
This video takes a european atheist view of the crusades as has been seen many times before, framing it unecessary at best and an abomination at worst. Of course bad things were done by both sides, it was a series of wars afterall – and we know war is hell.
Just dont forget, crusades are a thing of the past where jihads took place before and after, and still take place everyday somewhere in the world even in modern times.

Very simplistic video, almost like something from a 1st year student, that fails to address the context by which this started in the first place. So many of the comments here say as much. need to do more research and learn how to correctly pronounce some of the words you are getting wrong.
It was the Turks not the Arabs (Saracens) who the Crusaders gone to war against in the first place in response to their invasion of the Holy Land that saw them massacre Christians, pilgrims and destroy the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Even this is what caused them, it was an appeal from the Roman emperor Alexius Ii for aid against the Seljuk Turks who had conquered much of Anatolia and did all the things you say the Crusaders did.
They are called Romans, not Byzantines and Jihad is something that existed from the very beginning of Islam. You have it back to front. Muslim aggression isnt the result of the Crusades but the culmination of 400 years of almost constant Muslim aggression against the Christian world.
Next time save yourself some embarrassment and read the Wikipedia page, had you done this you could avoided everyone thinking your a shallow dumbass.
There's a strong case to be made, by my reckoning, that the Crusades were essentially just Raids; in the style of the Vikings, Vandals, or Goths; orchestrated by the Rich and Powerful of Europe for no other reason than to swell their coffers with Gold, Silver, Gems, Silk, Spices, and even slaves from the Middle East.
the Trappings of Faith were nothing more than what they were always meant to be in European Christendom: a lever of Power. Propaganda as perfume, so the wreak of Evil being committed wouldn't choke the very people funding the incursion, or being sent there themselves, sometimes even intoxicating them with violent Xenophobic Zealotry, making them brutally effective at their task, little different to the Berserkers, no substances needed…
Thanks for sharing this info. So many people have no idea how violently Christianity spread. It's not taught in some schools, and my Mom actually thought that the 12 disciples spread it peacefully all around the world. She had never learned about the crusades.
The idea that Islamic conquest was done through warm handshakes, is total nonsense it was done the normal way of the fire and the sword resulting in the usual body count. And it was a process of CONQUEST. The difference was one of success and not one of purpose or action. So if the Crusades left a black mark, the Islamic conquests left a stain ever bit as dark.
