As the clock ticked towards midnight on May 9, 1972, the waters near Haiphong Harbor churned with unease. Amidst the darkness, USS Hanson, a battle-tested Gearing-class destroyer, took her position in the line of battle, prepared for the challenges that lay ahead in Operation Custom Tailor.
In the final moments before the new day, Hanson united with her sisters from Destroyer Squadron 31, part of a powerful assembly that marked a historic strike, bringing together the most powerful cruiser-destroyer fleet the Western Pacific had witnessed since the days of World War 2.
Under the guiding hand of their commanding officer, Captain Zartman, the ships slipped into formation. At 3:45am, the leader’s voice cut through the tense silence, his words crackling over the Navy Red channel: (QUOTE) “Mark Point Alfa.”
In an instant, the five warships pivoted as one, their guns aligning with razor-sharp precision on their primary target: Cat Bi airfield, a vital hub for North Vietnamese aircraft and military operations.
Forged too late to prove herself in the battles of World War 2, USS Hanson proved herself in Korea, and now, in Vietnam, she was about to carve her name in the pages of naval history.

Good story. Yet again the images & videos used to illustrate the story do not match. You've shown views of a battleship, perhaps USS New Jersey, when there were no battleship actually in service at the time of this story.
Question when will we see a new video in the dark space
Have you researched the USS Sterrit?
Old Voice Guy is back !!!!
Another moving documentary. Thanks.
USS Helena is a light cruiser not a heavy cruiser.
The Gearing class destroyer was the best destroyer to come out of WWII. I served on one (DD-787) for 3 years before being transferred to the USS Brooke (DEG-1, later reclassified FFG-1) for my final year in the USN. The Brooke had better accommodations but there was nothing like a WWII tin can IMO.
I served on two gearing class destroyers, DD 789 and DD830.
I served on the USS Hanson as a signalman from July 1969 to August 1971. I don't know who made this documentary, but THANK YOU!!
😮😮😮
😊😊😊
How to destroy things. You came to the right place. While the country is falling apart with illegals, disappearing jobs, and people broke.
As a career member of the IS Navy’s Mens Dept (aka The MARINES), I wasn’t aware that striking a mine and having your bow blown off was “an accident”
I’d consider it the result if enemy action.
you were shooting little wooden boats with gigantic guns
So what’s up with that incorrect thumbnail of Ukraine sinking that Russian Landing ship?
There’s a Marine base on Okinawa named for Lt Hansen. I was stationed there for 3 years.
war is madness.
I miss these friends! Buddies! Heros! all the ones I was close to are gone these days.
THANKS! Guys! Miss Y'all, Y'ALL, YA'll.
Probably performed better w/o the command staff to screw things up.
Did big gunners wear ear protection?.
USA
I lost track. I thought the main topic was bombarding a Vietnamese airfield. Then you monotoned your AI voice back to blah blah blah about Korea. Pick a topic and stick to it. Tell your story from the beginning, in order. I’m not sticking around to see where you sail to next 🥱
Intersting video this time for me as I was a sailor onboard a spruance class dd that was part of DESRON 31 out of SanDiego back in mid 80s.thanks for the knowledge I just gained an bless those I served with
The false flag start of another lie
You got the WRONG USS Helena at 3:45. That's USS Helena a Brooklyn Class Cruiser that was sunk in 1943. The USS Helena that was in the US Navy in 1951 was the USS Helena that was a Baltimore Class Cruiser.
This one was a little bit slow to be honest I like most of your content. This is one of the first ones that’s just kind of so so for me.
"Who else has lost their family to Trump?" What a pyrotechnic twit.
Good one, thank you all.

Go Navy!
This country sure brews up some wealthy arms suppliers with all our tax money…. This shite is such a damn joke for simpletons.
If you don't know how to speak with authority you should never become a narrator.
The picture of USS Helena is of the wrong ship. The ship shown is the USS Helena (Brooklyn class) that was sunk during ww2. The one that fought in Korea is another ship (Baltimore class). They are pretty similar but the later one has bigger but fewer main guns.
But did we have a big battleship to use instead of a little destroyer?
What's up with your hushed voice? You have interesting stuff why not just talk like a man.
People sure do love to criticize. Reckon I do sometimes, too… but some of the nitpicking is just ridiculous!
& we STILL LOST
The narrator needs to quit drinking before narrating.
