In this celebratory 100th video, I explore the origins of The Simpsons, the creative qualities that made it stand apart from other shows at the time, until I pinpoint the first episode that launched The Simpsons’ golden age.

What should I explore next in my Day _ Was Born series?
I can’t pick out favorite episodes, there are just too many. But I do have a favorite.
Homer the Heretic
But “Lemon of Troy” is MY favorite episode! I thought I was the only one!
I wish they could take the writers from first seasons and make one last final episode of the serie so that at least it has a good end.
You only move twice is my favourite
I don't remember a moment of my childhood when I wasn't watching Simpsons. Most of my (and family's collective) humour comes from those first 8 or so series. Although technically an 'adult' animation, my brothers and I would watch it religiously when we'd get the chance. We owned the first 7-10 series on DVD and watched them until the discs scratched up. We then got the British equivalent of cable when we were ten/eleven and watched them all over again almost every night. We watched it so much we obviously quoted it to no end. My parents were raised on 60/70s British comedy (Peter Sellers etc) but my mother and father especially had a great affinity for the show. It was something we'd gather around at dinner and just howl. Watching those early series today make me pretty emotional. Now I look bak on it and think of how it strengthened my relationship with my elder brother especially (since we didn't have that much in common when we were growing up.) Whenever the early series is rerun on TV today, my brothers and I will watch it at dinner, and the jokes would still hit us hard. Your video really made me think of these things, little moments as they may be, but are so special to me. It's funny how one show could make an impact on not just my life, but those of my whole family. That's the magic. Thank you so much.
"Unless you've been living under a truck then you'll know that the Simpsons started in 1987 as a…"
You are really overestimating how much random trivia people know about the Simpsons…
I don't care what nobody says, the episode "Too much Apu about nothing" is one of the best episodes of all time, and my personal favorite.
Congrats on your 100th video! Love your take on the Simpsons
fantastic to finally see a side by side comparison of Some Enchanted Evening.
I love the crewd drawing style from the first season
While a nkce retrospective, the video neither focuses on Flaming Moe's enough, nor does it state it's case strongly enough
I hate that in modern Simpsons they will pretend that homer always forgets Maggie but during the golden age they have always had a special bond
I hate that 'Stark RAving Dad' has been pulled from Disney+, its such a good story

I mean…DC’s voice work is so great here
The monorail episode is "widely considered the best episode of the simpsons"? Really? How did you come to that conclusion. Personally, I always disliked it. As a kid, I even hated it. Is it just me or is it you?
Your generalization made me do some research. The monorail ep has a rating of 9.1 on IMDB. Treehouse of Horror 5, You only move twice, Homer's Enemy and Who shot Mr. Burns all rank higher though (and rightly so). Cape Feare is also rated 9.1. So there…
Holy Shit I was born the same day the Simpsons was!?!?!?
Will you do The Day South Park Was Born?
100% agree with Flaming Moe's. That hit some sort of zeitgeist peak, I remember feeling at the time that even kids I didn't think watched The Simpsons were making references from it or at the very least understanding them.
y’know something? i think this was the first episode i watched in full
granted, it was split into parts on youtube, but still
(also the first ep, i really watched, like tv-wise was the one where homer got obese)
Cape Feare not in honorable mention is a crime! The rake stepping gag is still hilarious!
I am posting a glowingly volatile comment. I have participated in the light social media this platform represents and, thus have fulfilled your advertising quota. Seriously though,, good video and one of the few sponsors I'm probably going to patron in the near future.
Choosing your favorite Simpsons episode is the hardest thing you can do. I just can't choose one.
I am deeply disappointed that Simpson v. State of New York did not feature in your Top 10 list.
