The Dangers of Secularism | Bishop Robert Barron

Bishop Robert Barron is a renowned Catholic theologian and author, often cited as “the Bishop of the Internet” for his innovative approach to evangelization in the modern world. Through his Word on Fire ministry, Bishop Barron produces and publishes books, documentaries, sermons, and podcasts that spread the gospel to over 200 million viewers online. In today’s episode, Bishop Barron and I dissect contemporary myths about traditional religion and delve into the underlying presumptions of a secular society. We also explore the ideological tension between virtue and freedom, and whether the pursuit of unqualified liberty is as useful as we might think. Stay tuned and don’t miss this episode with Bishop Robert Barron on The Sunday Special.

  1. I'm not a Catholic but I always listen and subscribe to Bishop Barron's podcast. I can see why he's reached so many souls of all ages. It's speaking Gods true word and in humility and love that attracts the sheep who go astray. Love to see Jews and Christians come together and great discussions like these!

  2. The most secular countries in the world are also the countries in the world with the highest standard of living, longest life expectancy, lowest rates of crime and corruption, most happy, greatest social mobility, best in regards of press freedom etc.
    Calling secularism "dangerous" is ludicrous

  3. Catholic leaders never talk about so-called Virgin Mary in front of non believer. But when they talk to Catholic people, they start to talk about Mary. I used to be Catholic, so I know what they do. They even prey to Mary. Mary is some kind of Goddess to them. Ben should know Catholic is biggest heresy. It is too big, so people believe it. Jesus destroyed man-made religious system. His disciples had nothing to do with religious system. Any believer in Jesus from system got out the system. But people started to make the system again over time. Ben Shapiro might think Christianity is heresy anyway. You will think Jesus is man, so he can't be God. The New Testament itself proves that Jesus is God. He resurrected from dead and showed himself to his disciples. If he had not resurrected, his disciples would have scattered. If Christianity is heresy, Jesus and all his disciples are biggest liars. The liars cannot have love for God. We can feel their love for God from the New Testament. Jesus is the word of God. The word of God has power of creation. His words touch our heart and work on our heart. The word give us power to overcome sinful mind. Ben should take your own research instead of asking Rabbies. You are much better than Rabbies.

  4. Two hyperbolic, demagogic, know-nothing charlatans. Secularism is living with your eyes and mind open and completely attached to reality. Religion is living with you eyes and mind closed – completely detached and permanently insulated apart from reality. All religions are fiction. All gods are fiction. Robert knows nothing. Zero. Anyone and everyone who uses the term god in sentences has a non-functioning brain. Just ask my mentor, Albert Einstein, who the year before he died said god is nothing but the expression and product of human weakness. We shared genius intellects and genius IQ's. Our lifetimes overlapped. He just didn't get to attend one or more of Stanford, Princeton, Notre Dame or Northwestern, as I did. If there exists some type of sentient singularity responsible for the allness (materiality, the phenomenal) we do not know of it (nor can we as it would necessarily lie outside our matrix of knowing) If we did, it would be taught at MIT. Idle, irresponsible conjecture is what these two witless clowns are given over to. Totally driven by monumental egos. They know nothing. Zero. They live to hear their own voices. There is nothing sweeter to their ears.

  5. I am a Jewish woman and as a minority religion & in my youth I always felt so separate from Christianity & of course Islam. However with the wisdom of age & great sages of my faith & great people that I’ve met that are Christians , I cannot say or stress enough how blessed I feel that Christians & Jews have this brotherhood and honoring of each others faith because our faiths are coming from the same source & our belief in one G*d. This is one of the modern freedom & liberties I see that I simply am not only hold great felicity for but I hold it sacred. Go to Israel, see your faith come to life. Take good stock and Good fortune that there is an Israel to do this. Its divine. I’m always in awe. How good & beautiful we’ve made the land. True Shepards of this land know. 🤍

I’m Catholic and I have read so many things and listened to so many things from Augustine Institute!

….and elsewhere about our Jewish roots.

Jewish people are chosen . We learn so much from them.

We need to listen to each other, and we need to agree and unify on what we believe. similarly.

    You know what?
God, and all his mighty glory is still who he is for the Catholics and the Jews because he is the God of the universe.

We have a more in-depth thinking process, perhaps but we can get along great and many of the Jewish people are really good people!

I love that bishop Barron and Ben are talking!

We need to stop being so narrowminded good grief.

  9. The sacrificial part of the mass if the point where we witness the grace of our redemption… when Jesus surrendered in absolute obedience to the will of the Father — through Him with Him in Him; in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is Yours Almighty Father, forever and ever. Amen 🙏

  10. Freedom without virtue is poisonous to human flourishing. I am not a theist, but I am a not a fool: Virtue is more important than freedom. Virtue requires that we ACT WELL. Only if we are acting well is freedom deserved.

  11. This is why Catholics can’t be Freemasons. In America, we truly believe and feel lucky to have a separation of Church and state. That’s freemasonry. Catholicism states Christ is King alone.

  12. It was the first discussion with Bishop Barron and Shapiro that led to me becoming a traditionalist. I no was confused and let down with the bishop’s comment about Jesus being the privileged road to God.

  13. Orthodox Christianity is less talked about. We do not enforce rules, but simply encourage the embrace of the divine aspiration through repentance, acceptance, the Lord, celebration and veneration of the beloved Saints. Orthodoxy seems to attract many self proclaimed atheists, Protestants and Catholics in recent years.
