This week on the pod Seth Meyers is joined by Jake Tapper, Mike Schur, and Alan Sepinwall for a special breakdown of which digital shorts make the Criterion collection! They discuss what other categories the digital shorts can fall into, including “additional reading” and “Kim’s videos,” plus they talk about some favorite memories of The Lonely Island and SNL over the years!

I am annoyed as Body Fusion is not Kims Videos/ Additional Reading. I think how they talked about it on the pod is so impressive how they where able to accurately achieve the look of those videos and everyone's performance really brings up the quality also. Any other Quaids argee with me?
A lonely Island podcast without the lonely island. Brilliant.
Fire whoever thought this was a good idea.
where does one vote?
if you guys have jake tapper on again can you ask him how he lives with himself as one of the US’s main propagandists for the genocide in gaza?
Amazing! How can I also vote?
Laser cats not being criterion means this whole pod is washed
I mean this with as much respect as possible: who gives a hot shit what Jake Tapper has to say about any of this?
When they said no to laser cars, i lost all respect for these guys
Lol they tell you who's talking in case you don't know
20-30% criterion is way too high. It should be 10%ish; you should have to be making difficult cuts.
Appreciate Schur’s commentary but could’ve done without Tapper. Had to be someone else out there more connected to SNL that would’ve been better.
seth didn’t tell us he loved us at the end 😔
why the fuck would i give half a cowshit what Jake Tapper thinks? just collect the fan results and talk about it with the dudes.
"People getting Punched" fucking rules. I imagine being close to it in the comedy world can change your perception of it. It's so good though.
Is the Criterion collection a bit or are you actually releasing a Criterion collection, because I feel like maybe you should. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but I want a physical media collection. Fuck digital. I mean, not digital shorts. Love digital shorts. I wish it was hot enough to wear shorts.
Where the heck was this poll? I wish I could have voted
Seth Myers: "imagine it's October 2001"
Mike schur: "it's October 2001? Well there's anthrax in the building we have to leave"
Dude that was such a quick witted and hilarious response that it made me think ”ahhh yes, this is why parks and rec, the good place & Brooklyn 9-9 are among my all time favorite comedies". Well done schur.
Forever bewildered that no one involved in the pod loves and respects the actual work of art that My Testicles is. It's Criterion to ME!
What these slightly older guys don’t realize is when Laser Cats came out us younger guys had been making videos like that in high school with our friends. And now one of them was actually on SNL! It was like one of us made the big time and maybe the rest of us could too
Justice for people getting punched!! It’s always been one of my hubs and i’s faaaaavorite.
United Way is criterion in my book. Mirror shouldn't even sniff criterion.
No Ferrell talking down to dogs ?
Hearing Michael Shur aver his fandom and state the importance of The Lonely Island to SNL and comedy in general is so fucking validating to a die hard fan like me. Love the pod.
My Testicles is 1,000% Kim's Video. Such a lovably stupid fever dream.
36:05 United Way is a top ten all time SNL experience- this was before the Mannings were omnipresent, and hearing him toss his squeaky-clean image away in 3 minutes was a revelation. I laughed my ass off.. and it still holds up! Peyton cussed those kids out sooo fluently
Look forward to the pod every week by far the worst episode don’t care for Mike or Jake at all. Hopefully we go back to better next week
Worst episode ever.
Here to say that Laser Cats as a whole should be in The Criterion Collection. It’s too hard to say only one is great and they are important as a collective. It should be viewed as the “Laser Cats Box Set.”
You think EVERY Godzilla movie should be in the Criterion Collection? No way, but as a piece of pop culture? Yes way.
Say what you will about the choices made in this episode, “That’s the ethical standard these ding-dongs have” is the quote of the episode and I will not hear arguments.
At least one laser cats should be criterion. There should just be a whole episode where you guys decide which laser cats makes it in.
I also remember where I was when Lazy Sunday came out/ seeing it live on tv- being 13 years old at home, and loving it
Well, now we need one of these episodes with Bill Hader, someone who's actually been in the Criterion Closet multiple times who can REALLY judge what's Criterion-worthy. Bonus points if he hasn't seen any of these ahead of time and just keeps comparing them to Luis Buñuel movies none of the other shock jocks have seen.
Always some weird white dude trying to virtue signal just so he can keep his job having to try and protect gay and Japanese people because he afraid of the pc police. It’s comedy and was all done in good taste.
You would say Dear Sister was nostalgic when it was parodying something barely 2 years old?
2025 should be the year of the video podcast for The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast.
laser cats: the series is like a 301 class with pre-reqs
the laser cats with Kenan playing the moonwalking death robot belongs in criterion
after the full criterion canon gets established, the cover short must be crowned.
Tossing in my vote (again) for People Getting Punched Before Eating- I think this is the one I rewatched the most out of TLI’s early shorts, and seeing all the other support for it here in the comments I’m not alone in my love for it
I won't stand for this Laser Cats slander.
You should’ve told them you love them Seth why so stingy with your love ❤️
Excited to listen to this, despite Jake Tapper's recent role in smearing Rashida Tlaib. Up yours, Jake!
people getting punched & laser cats are 100% criterion, mirror maybe but only if there's room.
United way is criterion for me
people getting punched before eating is 100% critereon, its the perfect andy sketch.
Laser Cats is criterion… Period!
40:17 – Seth's impression of Andy singing is always spot on, same with the Greatest look in the world
Rewinding for a sec – you were way too hard on yourselves for My Testicles. I mean, not Criterion but it was WAY better than you remember it being. Love the throwback hip-hop lingo and as Lorne would say (or as you would say Lorne would say) "You see Tom Hanks, Amy, Maya and it has the LOOK"
People getting punched in the face is absolutely syllabus for the comedic and editing techniques that they applied through the following years of the journey.
I am now caught up with The Pod.
