  1. The way that old woman started staying "Jesus Jesus Jesus." You could just hear the Fear from everyone there. I could imagine going through anywhere near something as crazy as that.

  2. The gas station video makes me feel something that very few videos make me feel. It's ethereal. Something you can't possibly comprehend being in that situation until you're in it. Something that makes me sad and frustrated is how probably a good amount of injuries and fatalities could have been prevented if the homes were better constructed. An ASCE Paper notes that most of the damage was caused by winds of 135 mph or less, and if roofs were fitted with hurricane clips, the damage could have been mitigated. While I'm religiously agnostic, the Butterfly mythos fascinates me, and I find it an inspiring symbol of the spirit of Joplin's citizens.

  3. Not that anyone needs another example of the power of this tornado, but it turned a 68,000 lbs excavator on its side and threw a 7000 lbs skid steer 2 bocks into the Walmart.

  4. I get that I'm in a tiny minority with this opinion (going by the like/dislike ratio) but your presentation of this video…bugs me. It sounds like you're attempting to read Whitman or Poe to an audience, but you're doing it in this almost overindulgent style…like you've heard a few storytellers that you're trying to emulate, except you're young enough to where you can still tell that it's not your natural voice but rather an intentionally stylized form of recitation, to the point that it's often distracting from the material you're attempting to "perform".

  5. I remember watching the tornado hunters show / documentary, and this featured right after Tuscaloosa. Was quite a change from the simple things that happened the previous weeks

  6. I forget this happened in April I’m an Alabama native and the event on April 27 will forever be engrained in my mind. I was in the fourth grade. We had a tornado hit children’s harbor just a mere 20 miles out of town. But I remember vividly seeing coverage about the Joplin tornado and it’s also permanently engrained in my mind

  7. My grandparents survived driving through Joplin, somehow. I live back in Michigan. They were visiting family and my dad said there was very bad weather and grandma and grandpa were trying to drive home and to pray for them. I was about 9 or 10. They made it, thankfully.

  8. I live in Joplin and we are STILL recovering from it, almost 4.3 Billion dollars I believe, and most people say 158 died, it is actually 161

I remember my dad telling me a creepy fact. It was about the Joplin Police Chief who was on duty that day and his badge number or some sort of number belonging to him was 161, 161 people died

The cross at the Catholic church still stands today

The 2×4 was not in a pvc pipe but was impailed through the concrete

And at the graduation at MSSU one kid was driving home when it hit, they had a sunroof and he was sucked out of the sunroof. He was later found dead in the nearby pond by drowning to death.

In the video that was added in was on Rangeline and when they passed the Lowes, you could see the power go out. And in that same video those people that were driving we knew and had almost hid in the Home Depot, in the video the person driving said "Should we take shelter in the Hope Depot" They were lucky to not as many people died whilst taking shelter in the Home Depot.

In that video if you watch the whole thing they pass a road right next to the bridge, we live right down the road, we were
    un-effected

We also knew 4 people that died

R.I.P to everybody who died and shall be remembered 🪦🕊

  10. My dad had a house in the city of Duquesne just outside of Joplin after the tornado we found out. That city had also been hit by it so we drove over around a month after and found the old house was completely gone all that was left was foundation

  11. You cite 'weathermen', yet in the footage you had shown right at the moment was from a video with primarily a female meteorologist. When it comes to media, this is a significant biased oversight.

  12. In cali we have earthquakes but they are not as damaging as these tornados. It is going to be terrifying when the big one hits but seeing a city rebuild itself gives me hope that we can reunite as a country and city to rebuild<3

  13. Everyone if you see this, the only reason that cross stayed up is because Jesus never let go. He never let go when he was crucified. Thy cross shall never be destroyed or harmed, in the name of Jesus Christ. Rest in Peace to everyone who died in these buildings and in the tornado alone. Shall Joplin never forget this event, and shall the Cross always reign.
