You are nut one crying in the wilderness. Your approach is righteous.
Socialism is a financial system, in my opinion, that is not bad. The concept is nice– everybody lives in equality in finances. BUT, it doesnt work because the leaders are always corrupt. They dont want the vast people to have equality. So they steal. And, in reality, socialism doesnt mean equality and freedom in religion. If only, there werent, such vast financial control now over the poor and middle class. Yes. Oligarchy, its called is starting in the USA. The GOP wont even vote to raise the minimum wage, (the Dems tried a few months ago in Congress) from $7/hr to a living wage like Canada at $17/hr, and we have 1/10th their population. But, instead, the GOP voted no, and, yet they knew they were all getting big tax cuts with Trump.
My son explained it to me today, when I read it in a financial magazine, an article that explained that, with tarrifs on imports, the people in their own country actually pay the higher costs, and THEN, (this is the part I didnt know), their dollar value goes up in the stock market and so do their economic investments! So not only do the rich get tax cuts, but they force the value of their dollar to go up, yet its the middle class and the poor paying.
When the upper class suppress the middle and lower classes, there is usually a revolt in society because of it. Thats why "democracy" started.

The sad thing about the people who want nothing to do with power are the ones that absolutely would be the best having it… because they would wield it sparingly and give it up immediately no questions asked

Rev Ed, this is what has caused me such anguish. Jesus Himself refused to have a Kingdom on earth, then what justifies His followers to try to create a kingdom on earth despite his guidance and word. Be blessed.

The surprise for the right, who voted for Trump, will be when all their benefits are gone. No more Medicaid or food stamps or ACA/Obamacare or FEMA aid or any "socialist," advantages. You will see higher food prices. You will see the 1% getting richer. The middle class will no longer exist. There will be the wealthy and the poor. The right will definitely reap what they have sown.
If you look at it, Jesus was sort of a hippie. When people in California started to become hippies, and got "new" ideas, Ronald Reagan was governor, and decided those ideas had to be stopped. He changed the structure for funding education. For our own good, of course.
I think I was taught that democracy and capitalism went together. You couldn’t have one without the other. Not realizing one is economic system and other is political system. During the Cold War “Socialism was a slippery slope to communism”. We need to teach the common good and everyone having the opportunity to grow toward their potential.

He's great. I've bought over a hundred copies of on tyranny and I leave them around town. I've read it three times, to keep reminding myself the lessons. Highly recommend.
These commentaries by Rev. Ed are very helpful to me. I have mentioned Rev. Ed's channel on various sites of political commentators that I watch regularly. I will keep doing that because I know a lot of people need comfort right now considering who won the election.
The American people have been taught to fear words like communism and socialism without really understanding what it means by the industrialists and capitalist elites. It especially ramped up during the cold war. You can have socialist policies without the authoritarianism but we've always been taught otherwise.

This is an important work from an important thinker and I believe there aren't any others approaching it from the perspective of a committed Christian, so I honestly believe such an endeavour would be very valuable
im seeing a lot of different religions speaking out in posts. All i want to say is that ive read a little of almost every major religion. and i have found all have the same basic truths. Love God Love one another. Anything else is missing the point of faith and love and teachings of all relgions, So these people missusing a religion and twisting it for power. is following the evils of the world instead of a loving faith. just an FYI ive studied Christianity, Buda, I ching, wicca, judaism, Tao. and probabally a few more i cannot recall right now. All saying the same truths in different ways in different cultures but the same message

I believe most people dont really understand socialism. Too bad the USSR had the word "socialist" in it. I would bet that is where people get the idea of what socialism is.

From Germany! Marx was a good man, a scholar and Jewish. He lived in Germany when workers had to much to die and not enough to live. I have a reprint of a cooking book Margarete the upper class wrote for worker wives to keep them alive with almost nothing. I tried one recipe, it was cheap fat in water, impossible to eat. In the first pages was told about a man who stood in front of his habit with thin legs between his furniture. He was sick, could not pay rent and there was no social net. Nothing bad happened in Germany because of Marx, but employers paid better wages and workers could lead a decent life. Lenin said, the rich at first must be forced, so there was a dictatorship. Dictatorships always torture people.
Socialism is a red line through the Old Testament and The New Testament, it starts with not taking all the harvest and leave something for the poor.
Socialism is Christian. In Germany we have both, a capitalist free market for a good economy and a social net, everybody can get money and medical treatment. Still there are homeless,,but shortly a hotel was burnt because if new hate fired with right extremist misinformation. Actually the country had many homeless in that hotel, so they actually get some help apparently.

Yes, yes, yes: I look constantly to see if it is I who is becoming a tyrant – and I'm often not happy with the answer. "Looking At The Man In the Mirror" is a difficult task (for me). On the other hand, I am also aware of the secured climbing I've been doing and the general movement. I'm not happy with hanging forever in the middle of nowhere and singing my song evermore beautifully and so I climb another few meters and secure. The arrival at the next plateau is dependent upon how well I've climbed up to now , how secure the climbing-ropes have been and how long I can last. I do help others along the way.
Yesterday I befriended a fellow-traveler on the train-platform. She described the fight with a year-long friend who seems always unhappy with her. I asked if the fight had to do with money and she affirmed this saying that her friend just was upset that she (her friend) was ALSO having money difficulties. I mentioned to her that we are at the end of the month and a lot of people are having money-coping problems. I asked her what steps she took to de-fuse the situation. The woman (of about 40) was so disenchanted that she had given upon her friend (of 20 years!) and told me that she's never going to speak to her again. "But didn't you love your friend all this time?", I asked. She told me about her family losing her mother, recently, the success of her son (20), the rejection of her mother's sister who threw her out of the house etc. "So tell me, how are you going to eat until Friday when the check comes?", I inquired. "A few carrots, a potato, onions and a fresh rose of broccoli costs next to nothing." She didn't know. I told her of a place where she can get a free warm meal and breakfast, tomorrow. "You can even call your friend and have her meet you there to break bread together and put this fight then behind you." She reverted to hating her friend (instead of the situation they were both in) and I had to leave the train (which we both boarded while discussing all of this) with her wallowing in this bitter fight and in the prospect of her life (as she saw it). But she had an address, now, where she might eat, even help out others who are having difficulties with which she is well familiar. I do wish her well.
Looking for the tyrant – it's like a Samuel Beckett play and makes us inert and just stuck. Love.
A common Christian critique of communism I see is that while sharing and fair wages and so on is good, it has to be voluntary, and not forced by the state.
And I always think, people want the state to do it because counting on people to do it voluntarily just doesn’t work.

Oh man. These people won every branch of government and they are still shit terrified of shadows on the wall. Nothing will ever satiate their capacity to victimize themselves by their own imagining.
It’s a fabulous book
I fear that any example of good behavior that Jesus showed, is now derided as "woke" and cast aside. Jesus wasn't a huge fan of the mega-rich, but Evangelicals lead the pack in billionaire simping. Jesus told us to forgive – I don't think I need to elaborate on how Evangelicals feel about forgiving those over whom they have power. Jesus told us to feed the poor, heal the sick, visit the incarcerated, and to love our neighbors.
And instead, the Evangelicals voted overwhelmingly for deportation, cuts to health care, cuts to every policy or department that might help the poor, protect the environment… or put any limits on the power of the mega-rich. And they proudly do so in the name of a guy that, if he showed up today, they would deport to Mexico without a backwards glance.
Forced change DOES last. There are millions of Jews who were "changed" by the Holocaust, native Americans who were "changed" by the Trail of Tears, and now there will be millions of women "changed" by forced birth.
Priest, I know you probably don't celebrate thanksgiving as you are in Scotland. However, have a pass from this American to go out and buy something robust and delicious to eat today. I am going to my families home shortly to celebrate soon. I hope your day treats you well. For many of us in America the road is darkening. I don't know when it will get better, but I wont compromise my humanism, in this moment, with this new/old orange buffoon coming into power on the 20th of January. I don't have much faith that the American church will stand athwart Trumps actions, many of my trans and gay friends are rightfully worried. Lots of people buying weapons these days. Lots of people turning their backs on being public facing. Lots of hiding. Its a sad time. Ill face it bravely though. And I hope you, and others overseas, stand as witness to whatever madness comes from the next 4 years. Record it. Be well Ser.

I have a friend who said she read every page of the Bible. Yet I found she really didn’t understand the teachings of Jesus. Compassion and empathy weren’t understood.

One thing I never hear Christians question is the ethical qualities of capitalism. Christians are quick with coming up with numbers for deaths under Stalin or Pol Pot, but they never add up the historical deaths under capitalist regimes. Despite this utter lack of information, they are certain that capitalism is God's power on Earth.
Capitalism. The game where the person who has the most when they die wins. The one where in order for you to become fabulously wealthy means that a lot of people need to live in abject poverty. THIS is the system Christians believe is ordained by God. And not just the prosperity Gospel eejits.
Liberation theology, and its focus on the lives of people, not the wealthy, it's about the only thing that is keeping me connected to the church.
Where is Compassion?
Church uses the majority of Gods money just to sustain the church, not help the people. Where's all the houses built, the land bought, the medicine administered, the food given? Lies, lies, lies.
It's all about Greed and self promotion. Not in Gods plan. Shame on all the churches for not understanding what the bible is. People are blind.
Stop promoting mans conception of true faith and start following Jesus.

I could understand (just a bit more) if Kirk Cameron was concerned about communism than socialism. Regardless, why not just focus on teaching children (& adults) how to build upon their qualities/gifts of character/virtues- compassion, creativity, empathy, courage, humility, being merciful, helpfulness, respectful, etc.

He’s fighting SOCIALISM??!!! Not evil, not hate, not fear, not poverty or hunger or homelessness…. And his big goal is to fight against something while teaching children, not encouraging things like love, kindness, goodness, or peace. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, they’re probably little goals. It says so much about him, about how lost he is in his own faith. It’s a sign of how politics rules his religion.
