Constructing a permanent base on the Moon presents a multitude of hurdles. From establishing sustainable life support systems in a vacuum with no breathable air, to protecting inhabitants from the constant bombardment of radiation and micrometeoroids, the lunar environment poses a unique challenge for human habitation. Despite the difficulties, a lunar base could serve as a springboard for further space exploration, a scientific hub for studying our closest celestial neighbor, and a potential stepping stone for missions to Mars and beyond.
