  1. In 1994 my high school best friend were sent by our now exes to then Sears Point to watch the road course race. The wives gave us a pair of Super Fan (or whatever the full weekend pass was called.

We flew down from Boise to San Francisco, got a rental car and drove to Vallejo.

Here we are, huge fans of Senior, and
we are in Jeff Gordon's home area, with our heads in the.clouds!!

Your dad won that race, passing Mark
Martin for the lead with a couple laps to go!! I recall the local coverage writing he said he smelled oil on the track coming into the downhill hairpin and he out braked Mark for P1!!!

In the stands dad had not one but TWO semi trailers selling merch!!

It was fantastic! Dad(Sr) took P1, beat Jeff, beat Mark and
as you know won the last of his 7
    championships!

We didn't even need a plane to go home, we were flying so high!

Love the DJr Download, love Mike, all the bts guys, Letarte, and that person that runs JRM, the leader, Kelley!

    Thanks for the ride!!

  2. I think some of the problem is the lack of star power. Back in the early 2000’s we had Dale jr, Jeff Gordon Tony Stewart Jimmie Johnson Dale Jarret Labonte bros and before that Earnhardt sr.

We are about to lose our last “original”star of the 2000’s, Kevin Harvick.

I also think drivers like Ross Chastain, Chase Elliot, and maybe even Preece will help this sport grow and survive, but I don’t know if it can be like it was.

I think the other problem is all the dang rules.

  3. NASCAR is the woman that I’ve loved for 50 years. But all of a sudden she’s schizophrenic. She doesn’t know who she is. She doesn’t know how to dress. She doesn’t know where she’s at. She doesn’t know who she wants to be. Even during love making she wants to throw a yellow flag and take 3, 10 minute breaks just at the point where I most interested. Road courses are like listening to her talk for hours about her Auntie in Muncie and without ever to getting kisser her. She no longer cares about our dedicated loving relationship that we have had for decades. She is now more worried about some Gen X’r that can’t even spell NASCAR. NASCAR has lost her heart and soul along with her compass!

  4. Kelley, you have a heart of gold, as does your family! You are so down to Earth and so is Dale Junior and that is the Earnhardt difference! Most other drivers are not like your family. Other drivers act like they do not have time and they are too important to talk to passer-bys

  5. Back to the “Future” please. But the Clash in LA stinks. LA, Chicago and Austin 3 of the 4 most liberal cities in the USA. Good thinking, guess you have to try because 40% might be race fans. Good luck!
The teams are their own enemy.
TV coverage (and not mentioning team sponsors) has killed the ROI for race team sponsors.

Best ADVICE on the podcast: Bring Friends with you to the track. That’s exactly what needs to happen. Take your neighbors kids with your kids.

  6. very disappointing Marcus. This mentality is why we have an impasse. The way a team owner survives in NASCAR is start with a huge sum of money and use it as a tax write off (Stewart Haass). NASCAR and the tracks better come to the table with the Racing Alliance or we could see no cars on the track. How long can SMI survive in that environment?

  7. Life is funny. I likely don’t think about the racing business (or any business) in this way if I’m not listening to The Intimidator’s adult daughter talk to Bruton Smith’s adult son. They’re both successful in their own right. Also, being a dad really offers perspective. “Hey, don’t run!” That’s something every parent says in a hundred different ways throughout the years raising kids. Most kids react to warnings the same btw. They’re challenges. Opportunities to show what we can do. There is no better purpose in life than being a parent.

  8. When NASCAR went to cable TV. in the 2000"s I was one of the rednecks in the country that could not get cable tv. so, I quit watching. Now I live 30 minutes from M.I.S. and have no desire any more to go to a race.
