The Bloater Progression And Ellies Immunity Explored | The Last of Us Ep 5 and 6 Explained

As Kansas City Fedra drove the infected underground, the unfortunate consequence of doing that was isolating the infection and allowing for the cordyceps to form new variants of their controlled. This results in something known as a bloater. This creature towers above the rest and possesses strength beyond the regular infected as well. But why is that exactly? Lets discuss that in todays episode along with Ellies immunity!

  1. I really hate senseless "intense" scenes in movies. They just forget all logic and direct the actors to do the dumbest shit. Hence the idiotic running in a straight line away from a truck scene.

  2. I really want to like this show and thought episode 1 and 2 were phenomenal, but after that it's really been going down hill with the massive deviations from the source material for absolutely no reason.

  3. When talking about the limit of the human body there is this news story (and filmed) where a helicopter crash ended up partially in water. A vet was standing by and his friend was in the heli and was a vet too. The guy nick named "Tiny" partially lifted the heli. It's on youtube if you wanna double check.
"Shocking Video: Man Lifts Helicopter to Rescue Fellow Vietnam Veteran!". Yes that is a very clickbait title but eh it's something relevant.

  4. Its a fungal colony there is no leader it is one thing one consciousness. That wasnt a group of individuals following a leader that was a coordinated movement of a single mind. If Ellie has a mutated form of it they might want to kill her because its a separate colony of fungus.

  5. I'm just going to say you know the general perception of males is fucked up, when a man that lost his daughter, is splitting ways with someone who fills that gap, him meeting his brother, passing the responsibilities on AND the pain of having his dead daughter brought up got over looked in your reasoning of why he cried.

I'm not trying to be a dick but I got to call you out, his Feefee's deserve to be hurt.

And I'm here for more male leads having temper tantrums and being frustrated it's realistic.

  6. My only exposure to the show has been through your videos, Roanoke, save for a buddy of mine showing me the Bloater scene a few days before this episode came out. What a fantastic monster reveal; the show creators knocked it out of the park. Having never played the game either, my buddy nerding out over how it was reminiscent of one of the setpiece segments was also very cool.

  9. There’s no way their blood sample test is being used to look for antibodies. Considering most people expire within 24 hours of being infected that is not nearly enough time for the body to initiate an adaptive immune response at least one that would be detectable in the bloodstream. For reference IgM Ab against most pathogens is only found 3-5 days after the onset of infection. It’s more likely the test is looking for antigens in the blood stream that are specific to the cordyceps fungus. Something like chitin which is not normally found in human sera.

  10. Any abnormalities in the immune system Ellie would have had that would explain her immunity is most likely a mutation in her innate immune response. The fact that she was able to keep the infection localized for long enough that an adaptive immune response could be activated and the humoral arm of the immune response could take over suggests that either she had an abnormal level of circulating myeloid leukocytes or that she may have mutations that better regulated IFN responses. I think it may really be possible to beat the disease, the only issue is that the fungus takes over so quickly that the adaptive immune response does not have enough time to mobilize before the host keels over and succumbs. Interesting thought, I think we don’t really know a lot about how our body responds to fungus just yet as it is rare for fungus to colonize us due to being outcompeted by our microbiota and/or our regulated body temperature.
