People mistakenly describe the N Class Mogul from Bachmann as a split-chassis model but it isn’t, which means it’s incredibly easy to DCC fit. Today Jenny is going to show you how!

  1. I have two N class locos and they were both split chassis so I sent them to WICKNESS model raiways who chipped them for me and they are superb so some are split chassis and some are not. The newer ones are not but I have really old ones and they were
When you took the body off it is completely different to mine

  2. I've bought two of these "Woolworths", a BR Lined Black with Late Crest, and an SR Olive Green version; which will confuse people as I'm primarily an LNER modeller- but there is method in my madness- one of the engines will be kitbashed for a fictitious private railway in the Eastern Counties.

  3. Now THAT'S a superb bargain. There'll be none left at any shops by now, methinks!

I'm not a Southern loco fan, as it happens, but I can appreciate the value of your bargain hunting nonetheless.

  4. 'N' class Mogul's were mostly used on the SR for goods trains. They were occasionally put on passenger duty. It is called a 'Mogul' which was the name of the very first American 2-6-0 loco of this design. These N class Moguls were frequently seen on the SR and so are an ideal addition to any SR themed layout! Thanks for uploading.

  5. Great bargain – and great tip on the nail varnish! Yes, these older Bachmann locos can get rather overlooked and under-valued. I recently did a similar DCC decoder hard-wiring to an old (cheap) Bachmann 94xx pannier tank which was also fairly simple and works well. On the N-class, I had trouble with that strange loco-tender link causing derailments (I've had similar issues with some close-couplings on coaches) but I managed to loosen it.

  6. @Jenny great video, I saw this the minute it had been added to the rails site and thought the price was incorrect, then I looked a day later and assumed it was split chassis – looks like I missed out on a bargain

  7. Only watched first two mins so you may have covered these points. Typically cheap because 1) large supply, not enough demand 2) tender drawbar arrangement causes problems on uneven trackwork 3) no tender pickups 4) preDCC which for a lot of people (not me included) is a bit of a no go. Otherwise you're completely right – can even be had much cheaper than £50 on eBay and I've never had one go wrong

  8. I assume Mainline locos are all split chassis while early Bachmann may or may not be split chassis? Are there any other early Bachmann that aren't split chassis?
