Over the past year, I traveled far and wide across the Netherlands, Belgium, and France to capture incredible footage of WWII military vehicles in action. This video showcases part one of the most stunning tanks I spotted in 2024, from the legendary battlefields of Normandy to historic locations across Europe.
As we move into a new year, weâre gearing up for even more adventures, bringing you fresh, exciting footage of military vehicles and tanks. We canât wait to share the journey with youâstay tuned and enjoy the ride!
Tanks in video:
â SturmgeschĂŒtz (abbreviated StuG) meaning âassault gunâ was a series of armored fighting vehicles used by both the German Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS formations during the Second World War (1939â1945). The main StuGs were the StuG III and StuG IV based on the Panzer III and Panzer IV medium tank chassis respectively.
â Nashorn (German: [ËnaËsËhÉÉÌŻn], German for ârhinocerosâ), initially known as Hornisse (German âhornetâ), was a German PanzerjĂ€ger (âtank hunterâ) of World War II. It was developed as an interim solution in 1942 by equipping a light turretless chassis based on the Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks with the 8.8 cm Pak 43 anti-tank gun. Though only lightly armoured and displaying a high profile, it could penetrate the front armour of any Allied tank at long range, and its relatively low cost and superior mobility to heavier vehicles ensured it remained in production until the warâs end.
â The Panzerkampfwagen IV (Pz.Kpfw. IV), commonly known as the Panzer IV, is a German medium tank developed in the late 1930s and used extensively during the Second World War. Its ordnance inventory designation was Sd.Kfz. 161.
â The Panzer IV was the most numerous German tank and the second-most numerous German fully tracked armoured fighting vehicle of the Second World War; 8,553 Panzer IVs of all versions were built during World War II, only exceeded by the StuG III assault gun with 10,086 vehicles. Its chassis was also used as the base for many other fighting vehicles, including the SturmgeschĂŒtz IV assault gun, the Jagdpanzer IV self-propelled anti-tank gun, the Wirbelwind and Ostwind self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, and the BrummbĂ€r self-propelled gun.
â The IS-3 (also known as Object 703) is a Soviet heavy tank developed in late 1944. Its semi-hemispherical cast turret (resembling that of an upturned soup bowl) became the hallmark of post-war Soviet tanks. Its pike nose design would also be mirrored by other tanks of the IS tank family such as the IS-7 and T-10. Produced too late to see combat in World War II, the IS-3 participated in the Berlin Victory Parade of 1945, the Soviet invasion of Hungary, the Six-Day War, Yom Kippur War, and one was used during the early stages of the Russo-Ukrainian War.
â The Tiger II was a German heavy tank of the Second World War. The final official German designation was Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B,[a] often shortened to Tiger B.[9] The ordnance inventory designation was Sd.Kfz. 182.[9] (Sd.Kfz. 267 and 268 for command vehicles). It was also known informally as the Königstiger[9] (German for Bengal tiger, lit.ââKing Tigerâ).[10][11] Contemporaneous Allied soldiers often called it the King Tiger or Royal Tiger.
â Sherman Cobra King is an American Sherman tank of World War II.[a] During the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944, the Germans had attacked a weakly defended section of the Allied line and surrounded American forces in the town of Bastogne. Cobra King was the first tank to enter the Bastogne perimeter in relief of the besieged American 101st Airborne Division.
â The Sherman Firefly was a medium tank used by the United Kingdom and some armoured formations of other Allies in the Second World War. It was based on the US M4 Sherman but was fitted with the more powerful British 76.2 mm (3.00 in) calibre 17-pounder anti-tank gun as its main weapon. Conceived as a stopgap until future British tank designs came into service, the Sherman Firefly became the most common vehicle mounting the 17-pounder in the war.
The M24 Chaffee (officially light tank M24) was an American light tank used during the later part of World War II; it was also used in postâWorld War II conflicts including the Korean War, and by the French in the War in Algeria and the First Indochina War.
