  1. I don't think it's as much an explosion of popularity with video games than three consecutive releases of superb games, Horizon FW, Elden Ring, and Gran Turismo 7. They were released over a few weeks, and all 3 are Game of the Year candidates.

  2. HFW is doing very well knowing its only available on PS consoles and despite metecritic unfairly gave a 88 and sure Elden ring is everywere and got a 97 avoinding all the issues the game still has Way notable than HFW, but ok

  3. I would say console shortages might be a small factor in less spending this year but I would say the larger factor is due to inflation and people's purchasing power being decreased.

  4. Im so proud of From Software! I have been a huge fan for a decade and feel they are finally getting recognition they deserve and earned more than any other developer. They earned it!

  5. Elden Ring selling so well makes me so happy to see. Is From Software no longer niche? Of course From Software fans bought Elden (myself), but it also is attracting a lot of new players. There are also younger gamers like my nephew (high school age) getting into games like Elden Ring now. I'm not saying Elden Ring is perfect or the best game ever, but I am exceedingly glad a game like Elden exists. And it's selling like crazy.

  6. I couldn't agree more with everything you are saying in this video. This year has been incredible for the videogame industry. I am very happy to see that horizon, my most anticipated game is so good, and i am happy that one week after came elden ring and basically blew everyone away and i hope that later this year there will be more games that 7-8 years later will be considered as the best of the generation.

  7. HFW is just a good game, they added underwater sections (where you can't fight in while literally having a weapon that is an "harpoon gun"), and flying (there's also no aerial combat even though you are literally flying a machine that has a fucking plasma cannon), they did the bare-minimum for a sequel and cut corners everywhere beside the graphical fidelity, that is the only top notch thing about this game.

Elden Ring is just on another level, it's also overrated the graphics and performance are terrible, but if Elden Ring is overrated than so is HFW

  8. That Top 20 Video Games statistic is very sketch. Not only did Square not at all publish Dying Light 2, Rockstar published GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition, Minecraft is technically Microsoft now, and the fact that apparently Cold War is on the top 20? Idk man. I believe Elden Ring being number one just going off of how many copies on PC alone were sold, but there are things on this list that are questionable

  10. Horizon Forbidden West is ten dollars more per unit and an exclusive title. For Elden Ring to have a higher gross sales than Horizon on PS5, it would've had to just obliterated it.
3:49 7.9% inflation and taking the war in Ukraine into account are huge factors. Utility rates where I live are going up 20% this month. Expect the trend to continue. Early 2021 was also a year propped up artificially by economic stimulus in the US and had this cyclical boom bust effect because of COVID outbreaks. And I don't know if the console sales rankings Jeff Grubb is looking at would look very different if there wasn't a chip shortage. Nintendo sells traditionally very well and Sony/Microsoft are left alone to compete.

The thing we always fail to mention about games surpassing movies in revenue is that the largest chunk of that pie is mobile gaming by far and not consoles. The global mobile market is like 87 billion dollars or something. People are spending money on apps for their phones in ways that they are not on Xboxes and PS5s.

  11. I have enjoyed my brief week with Horizon until Elden Ring started to dominate my free time but I am really happy to see how great Elden Ring is doing. Always been a FromSoftware fan and it's just nice to see how more welcoming this one is to all Soulsborne newcomers. Can't wait to see how they continue to improve too!
