Playing every Mega Drive game on Twitch has helped me play a lot of titles on the system that I didn’t know! Some are really good (or at least interesting), while others are…well, they’re Toys. Here’s 10 virtually unknown games that are worthy of more attention, whether they’re good or bad. Enjoy!

If you enjoyed this selection of somewhat lesser known Mega Drive titles both good and bad, then you can follow the Sega Mega Wheel live on my Twitch. 🙂 http://www.twitch.tv/kim_justice
The putting part of that golf game is just unforgivable.
The only thing that has me slightly less hyped about the Gargoyles remaster (I never even knew there WAS a game) is that you only play as Goliath. This feels like a prime candidate for some kind of Castlevania 3-esque mechanic where you rescue the other gargoyles and they have unique abilities. Maybe Hudson's sword could damage enemies that block or something.
Would be nice if Curse could be eaaily improved by a romhack or overclocking
In my circle of friends, the Genesis was sports console. That’s pretty much all we played on it.
Kimble, you should really check out Slime World on the Mega Drive if you haven't. It's rarely ever mentioned or reviewed, but it's got a ton of depth and replayability. Also, this is random, but that sunset level from Aworg is stunning! Never got that far.
Legendary production values as always. Great to catch you on twitch the other day, really appreciate how you respond to the community
As far as I'm concerned Curse is a music album, not a game. You weren't actually supposed to play it! It's magnificent box art is also easily up there with the best of them.
I'll have you know, Osomatsu-kun Hachamecha Gekijou suuuuure is something with a rather (for lack of a better word here) unfortunate story regarding its development.:)
Metal Fangs's OST sounds like a banger, I'll have to give it a download from Zophar given the snippet of gameplay audio ya showed off.
I've actually played a bit of Generations Lost back in 2016 when I was browsing shitty ROM sites, and I found it very underrated then, haven't played it much since though, so it was a pleasant surprise hearing it again.
So while I was out today I was listening to CUPodcast and Ian mentioned Gargoyles as being one of the best looking games on the Mega Drive. "What the heck is Gargoyles?" I thought. How could I have missed this game if it's as impressive as he says? Then I come home, put on a Kim Justice video – and it's GARGOYLES! And, yeah, looks nice.
Lion King is much better than Gargoyles though, c'mon Kim.
Devil Hunter Yohko is pretty solid too, the jumping is similar to CV or Super Metroid/Lion King (IIRC two different settings depending on if you're moving or not, takes some getting used to I suppose but feels good when you do). Some nice there music as well.
Devil Hunter Yohko is about a teenage girl raised to fight demons, but she really doesn't want to. Also, she'll lose her magical demon fighting powers if she loses her virginity, which would basically be win-win to her, only she can't seem to get a boyfriend.
So yeah, it's exactly that kind of anime.
I'm a huge fan of Devil Hunter Yohko, it being one of my first megadrive games. The projectile bubble is definitely your best friend and will negate the need to get close to most enemies. Yeah the jumping is a bit odd but you can get used to it. It is worth perseverance and I go back to it and finish it every couple of years or so.
As for the anime, I didn't see it until years later…. it was practically pr0n 😳
I didn’t really hate Mamona Hunter Yoko (or whatever it’s actually called). At times it’s very frustrating, but I found parts of it to be pretty fun.
And then you have the so called "hidden gems". Have you thought about making vÃdeos on those?
Loving the twitch streams. Hilarity from yourself and chat
Absolute Entertainment, the Tynesoft of the 16bit era. 😂
Not sure if I played Generations Lost, feels familiar.
So glad your still reviewing Megadrive games after all these Years Kim, it's like a old friend you can always rely on.
More please… Great look and some new games to try 🙂
Oh god that golf was something else. Did you stumble across the real life version of Lee Carvello's Putting Challenge? 🤣
gargoyles really impressed me when i loaded it up on the everdrive, nice playability and gorgeous 16bit graphics.
Yeah, I guess I'll be that guy who chimes in with an Absolute game they actually like. Goofy's Hysterical History Tour isnt an especially great game, mind, but it is one I grew up with and have a lot of fondness for (like the time traveling setting – bonus points for being one of very few games to have an American Revolution era level – but also the Extend-O-Matic Hand is pretty fun to use in a Bionic Commano kind of way), even as I have a lot I can criticize about it (brutally difficult; that Revolutionary War-era stage has a pirate ship level that is entirely on tiny wooden crates floating in instant-kill water that goes on for too long, and falling down in the following stage takes you right back to it!). Probably won't change your verdict, but eh, it's somethin' above their usual fare.
The thing I always found weird about the Toys Genesis/Mega Drive game was the cover where they based it on the main movie poster where Robin Williams is wearing a hat with a smaller Robin Williams wearing a hat with an even smaller Robin Williams wearing a hat but they obviously didn't have the rights to Robin Williams' likeness so the cover is… just the hat.
And there was an alternate movie poster that would have been ideal for a game cover, with Robin Williams sitting in a room with a checkerboard floor with that elephant thing and that black robot thing dominating the background; all they would have to have done would be to do a face swap on Robin Williams with a generic face.
Knew about Metal Fangs for a while because of the cast… let's just say those are some solid profile pics.
lol that devil hunter yohko game was such a deep cut, i had no idea it even had a game. i rented a VHS of like two episodes from blockbuster when i was like 8 or 9 years old and it was very weirdly horny and when i looked it up years later as an adult it only got like a few episodes before fading into anime obscurity.
Toys The Movie may not be brilliant, but it is such an odd experience that it is worth watching.
Do you ever get up from your chair to move around?🤕
I watched Toys again recently for the first time in about 30 years. Is pure nightmare fever dream fuel. Has such an unsettling tone
Ha, Limmy in a Kim vid. Nice.
State of yer golf game, Chi-Chi!
Believe it or not, Gargoyles was also slated for an SNES release, as was Pocahontas. However, both were canceled for the system due to poor sales of the Genny versions. It would've been interesting to see them on the SNES, maybe someone found a near final build of these games, would love to see someone do a comparison.
have you ever thought of addressing your terrible speech impediment? i mean its like torture listening you try to pronounce "gargoyles". i mean if you ever really want to be taken seriously as a youtuber you should think about it. just my thoughts. i teach 6 year olds who are more articulate than you. and please dont blame it on your accent. you know better than that.
Toys used to be my favorite movie… when I was in my early 20's and knew nothing about life.
Another good 'un
Back to the old intro, eh?
what was the scene with neil stuke you show at the end from?
9:02 Is that Sting?
Great video mate.
I have only played the first level of Generations Lost. Think I will give it another look.
It really is tragic how some of the best game designers from the Atari 2600 (Kitchen, Van Ryzen, Crane) were so hopeless on later consoles. Race Drivin' for the Super NES was made by the creator of HERO, to name one example.
Also, I didn't care much for the Gargoyles video game, due in part because of the difficulty and the iffy control, but also because the writers blotted out the supported cast. Goliath is a free agent in the game, and only meets Eliza Masa at the end. What happened to Brooklyn, Lexington, Broadway, and Hudson? Why can't we play as any of them?
Oh yes, Curse was fittingly named indeed. I reviewed it years ago, stating "Pick a shooter on the Genesis. That shooter is better than Curse. So are the next five games you were going to mention. Hell, even Mike Ditka's Power Football is a better shooter than Curse."
The thing you said about sports games i would say about baseball and golf. Football and others i can see, but those two should not have that many. Specially baseball, a game that look the same everywhere.
Seeing Robin Williams' head associated with the word "hell" is quite a mood.
Demon's Crest is one of the best games on the SNES and Gargoyles Quest for GB as well – maybe those Gargoyle creatures should get more games overall
