  1. Btw everyone, DALL-E 2 is now open to everyone. I'm guessing they recorded this before they opened it to the public. You just have to sign up and all and then you get credits every month and I think 1 credit is one prompt which generates 4 pieces. 🙂

  2. I don't really like AI-generated art. It's fascinating that it looks as good as it does, but it tends to lack personality. Pluss, they don't credit the original art they use to generate the images, which is pretty bullshit.

  3. there is one of the major issues with ai generating, where an artist was streaming as they were drawing their art, and someone screenshot the drawing, produced a relatively broken ai generated image, but to those who wouldnt realize it would be more "complete" than the artists, and then said it was a "free base" generated from ai

theres also an issue of people saying "heres ai art i made" when theyre only a requester/commissioner, as well as there being no systems in place to prevent "in the style of [artist name] {possible additional artist name}", a major instance is where an individual who is heavily against ai generated drawings had their name used by someone, who couldnt tell the image had the eyes facing inconsistently

ignoring any of those, since technically you could ignore as "art theft is possible without ai", ai generated drawings kill off real artists jobs, and have even caused real artists to be harassed because people mistook their art as ai

  4. I reckon, art is an expression of (and/or from) human emotion. Even if an algorithm can draw everything single possible thing you could possibly imagine ever, it is never going to be an expression of human emotion, and so it will never be able to attain that so valuable aspect. Hehe

  5. Daft Punk did actually do a full world tour, called "Alive 2007" which went everywhere from USA to Japan, Ireland to Chille. I never got to attend it myself, but a friend did, and it was amazing according to him.

  6. let's be honest though, music has already been refined to a product that can be mass produced. same for movies, videogames, etc. but many agree that they don't have the same artistic merit or value.
AI can't create meaning, it's merely many levels of sampling. fancy adding and subtracting. whatever it's being used for, it's got to obey rules and you won't get the value you get from an artist who knows the rules but also where to break them

  7. For the record, Dall-E was built from art theft by scraping the internet for other people's work to use without consent or respect of copyright. And this technology may very veryy put art creation into more people's hands, but it will also harm industry artists.

  8. my own nuanced opinion on AI generated images is that it's wonderful for shitposts n the research that goes into it will be great for AI image and word recognition, but actually attempting to imitate art is dubiously ethical, since it's not only functionally just advanced plagiarism (there have been many cases of artists having their art fed into the machine so that it can produce art similar to it and then sold without their consent), but also unlike other forms of automation it takes up our LEISURE and not just our LABOUR, which i don't think i have to argue makes it genuinely more threatening than robots taking up factory jobs.

that said i fucking love seeing stuff like "the hindenburg but the blimp is paul blart" or "yoga class for jawas" n other silly shit. it's great for that! the issues only realy arise when u get to the idea of tryna replace artists
