  1. The Red Album was the first piece of music I ever bought. I have it on vinyl and cd. I still have the cassette, which is unplayable, but because of nostalgia,I can't part with it.

  2. It seems as though the streaming version is meant more for listening in the car or on speakers and not headphones. It bumps with plenty of bass in my car, which is what I like and the red album (streaming) sounds pretty good on headphones, as well.
However, at least as far as the MMT tracks are concerned, the bass is flat and has no definition. Walrus is especially terrible and is the absolute worst mix that I’ve ever heard Giles make. Like you said, the radio almost completely obscures everything else in the mix and ruins the entire track. It’s ridiculous they let that slide.

  3. Hi Andrew, don't know if you remember me – I'm the grateful Lemon Twigs fan (I'll be eternally grateful for you introducing me to them!). Anyway, I wanted to add my four pennorth to the I Am The Walrus debate. When I first heard the 2023 remix I was so excited, as it's in my Fab Four top 5 . I was actually angry when I heard what Giles had done. All but muting the King Lear speech? ("And give the letters which you find'st about me To Edmund, Earl of Gloucester", "What, is he dead – Sit you down, father. Rest you") What I do like is that he removed the pseudo-stereo mix from about 2 minutes onwards ("sitting in an English garden…"). Listening repeatedly to the 2009 mix, the Love remix and the 2023 mix, I find it jarring hearing the pseudo-stereo effect compared to Giles' efforts. It's still baffling to me though – it's like him removing the backwards mellotrons from the Strawberry Fields coda. Oh well, just my luck I guess – I'll stick with the Purple Chick version.
I'm still hopeful for a MMT remix one day – we have the Yellow Submarine Soundtrack remix of Baby You're a Rich Man (also in my top 5) but those 2009 mixes are so meh!
Keep up the good work my friend – I'll sit and watch green with envy at your collection while I make do listening to streaming these on Tidal!

  4. As someone who’s always enjoyed the new alternate takes and demos that come with the deluxe editions, I was a bit disappointed that we got the red and blue albums rather than a rubber soul deluxe – but having now heard the new mixes, especially on red, I must say I’m not disappointed anymore! Giles Martin has done it again.

  5. She Loves You is very muddy. Like a pillow is over the speakers suffocating the music. The mix itself is great, but where is the treble. Compare She Loves You on the 1 compilation. It actually can breathe. It sounds open and the vocals are pushed out. Disclaimer: I’m a huge fan of the remixes overall and that’s all I listen to these days (when listening to the Beatles). That being said when you compare Sgt.Pepper 2017, White 2018, Abbey Road 2019, Let It Be 2021, Revolver 2022, the songs just sound better than the original stereo/mono. The mix on the mono sometimes is better, but not the sound quality. Here when comparing She Loves You the mix sounds great, but the sound quality is worse. Listen to the 1 compilation and provide feedback? Did Giles use the mono masters or stereo master for these early remixes?

  6. I also want your review on Old Brown Shoe. With headphones listen to the 30 second mark for the fade out guitar. Now play the original….This is why Giles should only use the d mixing technology when necessary. The later material like Walrus, Old Brown, MMT, Revolution, could have been remixed exactly like Sgt.Pepper or Abbey Road. The later songs are too complicated to reconstruct them.

  7. Overall it’s great, but the issues could have been avoided. ISHST Ringo’s drums are so in your face and loud, but why didn’t Giles push up the guitar solo to avoid making it sound watered down.

  8. 🤮I love the original Walrus better (John’s voice/ending) which usually I never say as I LOVE remixes. That being said when the MMT album is redone we will most likely get a completely new mix to keep the entire album in unison. After the 1 in 2015 was remixed Giles still remixed those songs again that were on those deluxe box sets. This means MMT, Walrus, and Fool On The Hill will get reboots when the entire MMT album is newly mixed from the master tapes. Although Fool On The Hill and MMT both sound fantastic.

  9. My thoughts are more about the 1995 and 1996 studio singles. I want to get an E.P. all three singles Free As A Bird, Real Love, and Now And Then and a new find of another secret song with George or Paul on what needs to be George. Paul did a great job on Now And Then.

  10. I had just gotten Danny Elfman The Nightmare Before Christmas (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) it is on second of the movie. I wish they do a picture disk with each music video to each track with the 1995-1996 studio singles. Just a novity thought.

  12. I think the mistake most of yours have made with these albums has been listening exclusively through headphones and not through speakers in a room. I think part of the purpose of these remixes, is to make them sound as close as possible to the original sound you would hear if you had your stereo on back in the day. I don't think they were made specifically for the headphone bud or earbud experience. I think they were mixed so that the new generation that listens almost exclusively through headphones or earbuds, would enjoy the music, but two exclusively listen to these tracks and critique what's missing or what was added, on headphones is doing them a disservice
