Be glad that someone took it on themself to kill Reynard, why? Because he was ruthless and meticulous, if he was alive he and like minded like Höss would have made better strategies wich would have correlated to effiency in the mass killing of political opponents, jews, gypsies and all the people they thought did not deserve to live.
Speculative would have been that he would have been in charge of any fronts and succeed. The history could have taken a wrong turn with him and his likeminded.

in the movie, Operation Crossbow, there were 4 assassins, not 2, and in the end they preferred to commit suicide rather than being captured.
Reinhard deserved more than he got. All those innocent people die because of him.
The mass murderer got murdered himself.

That totally unnecessary operation to abduct an unimportant general in Crete, just for the prestige of the SOE, resulted in a plethora of murders by the Germans against innocent civilians. The Germans were bound to know the operation would have local cooperation. Yet one more blunder in a long list of SOE failures.
