'The area is foul.' Molokai residents concerned after broken boat washes ashore



A 50-foot boat that ran aground off Ilio Point on Molokai two days ago is now in pieces on the beach.

  1. Why would the state wait for the owner. Once the boat broke up the state should have sent teams out or hired teams for cleanup to prevent further damage. Bill the owner and their insurance afterwards.

  2. Any Environmental Impact penalties? Environmental cleanup costs on shore and on ocean’s floor? It’s the owner’s irresponsible sailing experience that causes it to become grounded and delay of any action to remove the vessel as it smashes against the shore with each wave. Fuel release into ocean and shoreline. It continues to breaking apart to dangerous hazards on the beach and underwater. Now this could be a potentially lawsuit to state if beach goers happens to get punctured by a rusty nail or splinter of wood.
