James Abbott McNeill Whistler was an American artist, active during the American Gilded Age and based primarily in the United Kingdom. He was averse to sentimentality and moral allusion in painting, and was a leading proponent of the credo “art for art’s sake”. Whistler influenced the art world and the broader culture of his time with his artistic theories and his friendships with leading artists and writers. His combative public persona juxtaposed his artistic delicacy, and his court case with John Ruskin over copyright claims captivated the London Press.

I've spent the past 45 minutes paying attention, and I still couldn't tell you anything about Whistler… Born in MA, liked "Oriental" influences. Its just always SO much for each artist, it takes more than an hour…
Beautiful!!! 🎨🖌
Thank you for this production – a great romp with a colourful character whose art is brilliant; what's not to love?💐
I enjoyed this piece. I have just recently seen the “Whistler’s mother” here in Paris at the Musee d’Orsay (first time for me) and was so pleased to see some of the portraits usually at the Frick in nyc here in Paris. The famous peacock dining room can be seen In Washington DC, if you have any interest. Even though I am fairly familiar with Whistler’s work, I saw some pieces here I was unfamiliar with.
Very informative and enjoyable.
Thank you.
Video too long, did not watch! 20 minutes max for this subject! Strongly recommend a short and a long version of such videos!
It is said that Whistler was the character that stood model for the old and venerable painter in Prousts À la recherche du temps perdu.
Excellent! Thank you!
His faces are striking.
The more i learn about Ruskin, the more i dislike the man . He comes across as an odious creature
This documentation is very good, thank you very much 😌🌹
Perspective never fails to please. Great presentation on a great artist. Thank you.
Thank you.
Quite interesting but odd narrating voice – it almost sounds computer generated. Surely pastel is stressed on the first syllable?
