6:23 it's both a fighting knife and gardeing tool here in the Philippines. Something that can appear to be just used to clear a path in a forest but can be deadly in the hands of an expert. Hence the name of the operatjon.
He got in a dogfight in his P38 and both engines shutdown because he dropped his tanks but forgot to switch to his main tanks in wings. He was a great fighter pilot and Chappie to.
This exact strategy can work well in war thunder too! Use a common base bomber aircraft and pretend to do so by B-lining for a base and surprise the enemy with a full air to air load out
Another possible factor in the success of Operaton Bolo has to be the rigid command structure of the North Vietnamese Air Force. NV pilots were trained and told to rely on commanders on the ground for instructions rather than relying on their initiative. As such, when those first MiGs broke through the clouds and found the Thuds they were after were actually Phantoms, confusion (and most definitely panic) ensued, resulting in 7 splashed MiGs before command told them to bug out and get back to base.
2:18 That made me so angry because it reflect todays situation. In the west we still appease our enemies. Why? To avoid "escalation". God damn im so FUCKING tired of this.
I remembered the music from 7:48 as the track used in FIXEDIT's video on Reuban James and Battleaxe being attacked by Backfires and defeating them all. Excellent video!
I will never get tired of your intros Falcon! Not much else can get me so pumped to learn more about epic and weird events all throughout military history 😂
I know it’s not specifically in your wheelhouse but if you ever wanna show the dirty army rotor turners some love. The story of army helos at FOB Cobra during the gulf war and Apache’s hunting SAM’s is very interesting (also Kiowa pilots were clinically insane)
This operation boils down to "man these like 4 migs are annoying, SEND EVERY PHANTOM WE HAVE, BLOT OUT THE SKY WITH PHANTOMS" amazing strategy honestly

Thoughts on the AIM-4 Falcon? Namely, what could've been done to improve its performance?
Olds got his wings at Williams AFB near Chandler,Az.

He got in a dogfight in his P38 and both engines shutdown because he dropped his tanks but forgot to switch to his main tanks in wings. He was a great fighter pilot and Chappie to.

Aid to Billy Mitchell, the guy who faked a Donkey Kong record and has milked that honey his entire life?
Fat Electrician: Tells it like an enthusiastic drunk Marine.
Falcon's Fighter Tales: Tells like it's an Ace Combat story.
Would highly recommend checking out Fighter Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds!
