  1. I have a big question! I’m fairly new to most things fish and aqua scaping. I have done my fair share of research though. I started with a 5.5 gallon with one beta and a nerite snail. Had all things to keep up with water quality and perimeters and had gravel mixed with shrimp and plant substrate but soon after upgraded to 29 gallon and set up new set. I did Caribsea eco boost substrate capped with aquarium sand then added my stem plants along back added two pieces of spider wood and some rocks and added Anubis and Java fern. Also attached some Java moss to the wood with aqua safe glue. So I expected first starting out many water changes and adjusting to get things right but it’s been over 2 weeks and I’ve done 2 water changes and my only struggle is ph. I used api aqua essentials, api quick start (did quick start again after fist water change) and I’m using api leaf zone. When I set up tank I layered aqua soil and crushed up seachem root tabs layered on top of soil then capped with sand then set up tank like said. I’m doing everything like should checking parameters changing water and adding what is needed. I added a golden Inca snail and 4 ghost shrimp. All are happy. However I battle ph. I have heard when lights come on(runs a total of 7 hours a day), a redi start lamp and a plant lamp.) ph will do one thing and when they go off another happens. I also adjust my filter when I feed. I feed betta and all else same time so I dial down filter. I have a sponge filter up to 75 gallon that’s it. No other filtration. I have a adjuster where I can crank it up or down and I feed my algae wafers behind filters cuz my food hungry betta can’t get it and my snails and shrimp can eat. So I’ll dial down filter so it doesn’t make shrimp struggle to get to wafer. Yeah it’s a sponge but it’s a big sponge and they will struggle if I don’t dial down. Anyway I know all I do and what I’m working with so, do I have to check ph every day and adjust it or will my tank level out eventually and not have so much ph fluctuation issues? I’m fairly sure my tank is cycled but please I need some advice on ph. I can control the amonia and nitrates but I struggle with ph and I don’t want my fishies/invertebrates to be unhappy.

  2. Missed half of the live stream… but I did have a quick question. Would a firemouth work in a planted tank. Also would one work out ok with eb acaras and a festivum. Thanks guys!

  3. I hope y’all will be at Dallas Aquashella!!! If so, I’m dying to meet y’all! Y’all have helped me so much over my 6 years of fish keeping.

It’s almost 2 am my time, I just did a water change on 9 new fancy goldfish I got today. Only 3 more months of quarantine for them until they go into the 270 gallon. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜« I’m madly in love with them already!

Amen on the quarantine! I do 3 months on nasty foreign imported goldfish. Patience is definitely something I’ve had to learn. The importer medicated them already but I completely agree on the antibiotic resistance. People overuse and incorrectly/inappropriately use antibiotics and anti-parasitics all the time. I refuse to contribute to the antibiotic resistance issue. I’d love for y’all to do a series on meds and appropriate usage in the future. I just love and appreciate your educational background and scientific approach to fish keeping.

  5. Hey what’s up guys! Glad the 125 was a false alarm! Love all your content guys! I had a question for you ,I’m 43 minutes in your video. And Just saw you guys speaking about green water and since I’m currently having a Cyanobacteria problem I started wondering if you had any advice and or if you have a video on it. πŸ€”

  6. Instead of Norwex you can use Vileda's PVA microfiber cloths. When dry it is stiff but when damp it has almost a sham texture to it. Just wet it, wring it well (but leave a tiny bit of dampness in them) and that's it. The professionals in the cleaning business in my area swear by them.

  7. Great stream sorry I missed the live! Some possible questions for the next few videos, culturing live foods
    – daphnia, brine shrimp, vinegar eels, and black worms which has been the easiest in your experience and why?
    – you guys may have done one on this already but what is the most expensive fish you've ever owned?

  9. Quarantine question, sorry long.
2.5 months ago I bought 16 young aquarium bred threadfin rainbowfish, put in qt. 1 by 1 they have been dying off and I'm down to 5 😭 they are eating well and looking good, until they aren't, they get concave and lethargic and die shortly after.

I suspect they had worms and have treated them a few times. Also after a few deaths I put some aquarium salt to help them get stronger.

QT is 5.5gal, with sponge filter and heater, bare bottom, a few reject plants for cover, water change every 2nd day. Soft neutral tap water, I use water conditioner, disolve salt and heat water before adding to tank.

I feel like I will lose them all and never get to add them to my main tank 😭 help? πŸ’•

  10. Here is my question which you asked us to post! So I had asked a stupid question lol earlier asking if mystery snails eat their babies. I feel I need to clarify. For the first time a clutch of eggs hatched. The babies are SO TINY I can really only see them w a magnifying glass. My snails are rasping all over my tank, couldn’t they inadvertently eat one? What tips do you have to raise these babies successfully? I obviously can’t gravel vac for awhile. Will they grow fast?

  11. Enjoying on Thursday afternoon. You guys are so much fun. My 17 y/o stepson and I (he is special needs and non-verbal) watch your live streams and videos often. He almost instantly calms down and takes a nice long nap when we tune in – believe me that's a compliment LOL. Your videos are upbeat, yet relaxing. Joanna, I'm cracking up about the 'rage room.' When I've just HAD it, I find myself either throwing random things away that we "don't need anymore", or…drama-cleaning. It's more noisy than normal cleaning, as it requires slamming, unnecessary struggling, and overly expressive sighing. *followed by: the awkward half-apology*😏

  12. You are right that most freshwater people don't have saltwater tanks. But I think a lot of us are fascinated by saltwater, even though we don't have them. Which is to say that I would be all in on a 'Saltwater newbie attempts saltwater' series of videos from you. So if you do go saltwater, this subscriber says don't hide it–bring us along for the ride!πŸ˜€

  13. This was the epic live stream! What a story….you made it feel like we were actually there with you in your angst over the 125 leak. I've seen that leaking issue with my HOB filters, luckily they're on my 5 gallons. 😱

  14. What do you do with your QT tanks/setups between periods of use? Do you keep them running, or break them down? I don't buy fish often, therefore don't need the QT running all the time, but I'm not sure if I should keep them running or break them down after QT period is over.

  15. I remember hearing in one of your videos that you recommend cleaning your filter media and sponges in dechlorinated water. Is this correct? I just setup a 55-gallon aquarium with a Tidal-55 hang on back filter.

  16. i have two questions. first: what is the fastest way to wash brand new gravel substrate? second: how do i know if something like fungi or a bacterial infection is in my tank?… after water changes the water in my tank seems to get very cloudy very quickly and won’t clear up. there also appears to be some white slimy coat of something all around the glass of the tank and i can’t figure out what is is. we have a 75 gallon with different tetras, guppies, and platties and two large sponge filters (will be adding a third). i recently returned the hob filter. im new to the hobby and really hope you can help! would also appreciate help with water parameters if you have the time!

    thank you!

  17. Thanks for all the great content I have learned so much from you both! I was curious, where did the concept of the "Book of Ideas" πŸ’‘ come from? I have since adopted the practice and cannot believe I ever didn't have one! Just one of the many lessons I have picked up from your channels! Keep up the awesomeness πŸ‘Œ πŸ‘

  19. Here's a question just as you've requested.
How accurate is the AqAdvisor stocking calculator? It seems like a good tool to use since it will give you filtration capacity, tank stocking level, water parameters for the fish and point out possible compatibility issues with the selected fish. But are there any validity to the numbers they give you?
