The writers may attempted to pass the "complete massive a-hole and an obvious character with 'thick' plot armor" trope from Murphy to Finn, but it goes very much visibly, and Murphy should've been shot in Season 1. As ruthless as it'd be, keeping a walking disaster around isn't a good solution either. Finn's condition wasn't any better either, sentimental value is absolutely useless when it comes about saving the earth. This is why you only form a good relationship, but not to get attached too much, what happened to Murphy was repeated by Finn, AGAIN. To anyone responsible with the story directly, this is a bad thing to do to your story, don't make it a habit.
