Texas Snow Bids Adieu – Spring Weather Returns

Well, yesterday sure was something. From fourteen inches of snow in Plainview on Interstate 27 to reported tornadoes in the eastern Brazos Valley, Sunday kept us busy! That doesn’t even get into the monster hail that struck East Texas! Such dynamic storm systems aren’t too uncommon as we begin approaching the transition to Spring in Texas. All of that hoopla is leaving Texas behind. In the wake of yesterday’s storm system, a quick return to False Spring is expected across Texas this week. 

Our next weather-maker will bring rain chances to the southern and southeastern third of Texas on Thursday and Friday. Specifically, we could see heavy rainfall across Deep South Texas, the Rio Grande Plains, east into the Rio Grande Valley, and the Middle Texas Coast. The entire Texas Gulf Coast will have rain chances to end the work-week. Severe thunderstorm potential is uncertain, though it doesn’t look particularly impressive or likely at this range. 

A cold front will push south into Texas on Friday and Saturday. That front will end precipitation chances in Texas as drier air filters in. Unlike yesterday’s system, the upcoming cold front will be dry. No snow or winter mischief is expected next weekend – sorry, snow fans! A freeze may occur Saturday morning and Sunday morning across the northern half of Texas. Afternoon temperatures this weekend will get knocked down toward February norms – with 40s, 50s, and 60s. The cold front won’t bring especially chilly air to Texas.

  5. Yeah you think it will be much later when some people will be seeing this video, but some of us people actually own a Weems & Plath Barograph in operational condition. I for instance have two one operational and the other needing a rebuild. As one of the SkyWarn members I still have to get five knots under sail even if I have to go in the wrong direction every time I Sail I will pay the piper.

  7. I planted potatoes February 2nd in Louisiana and it has rained like crazy since. Luckily they were already sprouted which hopefully means they won`t rot. I ordered strawberry plants from Grand Prairie Texas and they should arrive today along with my new mulberry tree. Hopefully we won`t get another extreme Arctic blast, but planting fruit of any kind is the best way to trigger one that I`ve seen yet, so keep your heaters ready! I broke a 6 month drought back in 1996 by loading my drums in the back of my truck!

  16. I wouldn't get to excited about the sunshine yet, it's giving you a taste of what has yet to come. I wouldn't put that winter clothing just yet. Winter is going to come back with a vengeance, very soon. Because down here on the west coast of Australia , we are going to have our 4th heatwave in the last 6 weeks.43+ degrees for the next week, that's 110 in Fahrenheit range. 👋💕🇦🇺

  18. If your joints, ie knees,elbows, shoulders, wrists or ankles,flair up before cold/ wet / storms. Then you know what I'm talking about ,with the weather. Because I do, and I'm pain free now. But I won't be when the change of weather is coming, I ache all over, the closer the bad weather comes,the more pain I'm in.👋💕🇦🇺
