I think the margins will be 40% when at scale, you can't rob your customers without competition stealing your clients.
If Zerosum is correct and the current back order is 13,000 Megapacks, and Tesla is taking orders for Q424, then Tesla is planning on building 13,000 MP’s in seven quarters.
My feeling is that Elon Musk has not yet reached the peak of his Genius engineering potential, and he will create other wonders that will stupefy us for a very long time. The american Government has been hampering Elon Musk progress in every way they can, up to a point that he had to flee California . It is the most stupid and irresponsible behaviors imaginable. We should kick this people out, and elect some true Americans that will work very hard for American Interests, and treasure and support people like Elon that right in front of our eyes is changing the planet in to a much better livable place, and in the process enhancing our quality of life.
Tesla Semi is a route truck, not an over-the-road team driver truck that runs 22 hours a day covering the lower 48 states.
I doubt that margins would exceed 50%. Not because they they can't but because they won't, they would reduce prices accordingly 😉 😏 😜
The dude is right Warren, I wouldn't doubt that Lathrop is already running at capacity.
OK, Megapacks are big and heavy, but Megapacks, have less suppliers, less employees, less job stations, less parts and less robotics to install, adjust, and maintain. All around megapacks are far less complicated to build, and the manufacturing process, as well as the factory itself, is far less complicated.
Warren you are so rude. Your body language is terrible.
Randy and Warren should do a weekly pod cast. The Odd Couple.
Thank you for making this video!
I hope Tesla can innovate the battery , I hear of so many different inventions in batteries. Something’s gotta surface sooner or later
Excellent conversation. Glad to see this energy narrative is getting traction. 2030 is less than 7 years away which means we have to see concrete results very soon.
Is that the same guy who coudnt remove his cat filter in a delegation with a judge? Sound like him.
I tuned in to this pod cast to hear not Warren, wanted to listen to insight from Warrens guest. Warren talks too much, over his guest. I get tired of listening to Warren.
I like this conversation, the fact that you two don't agree so much on everything i think makes it more interesting.
The only thing holding back mega pack production is material supply.I would love to see a partnership with JB Straubel
Maybe large transporters like Fed Ex could even save time on charging by swapping trucks. A truck at the end of its range could pull in to a station, drop the trailer, and grab a charged truck that's already waiting. Then the previous truck starts charging. They could probably have their own network. I'm sure they could work out the logistics! 😉
This guy's accent is occasionally hard to understand. "What are they selling them far?" "Are it's more." "In ardor to achieve that, …"
Pleas waren let him speak a little bit. Stop being so arrogant
I’m a bull, but an accountant an mba. For free is stand up comedy. The sales will not happen nearly as fast needing to add megapacks. Which is why Elon will sell them closer to diesel
China will not let Tesla have the local trucking market. Either they won't let them build a factory or they'll slow walk it until BYD had a commanding lead.
BOOOOOOM!!!!!!
Tesla past the moon, out of the Solar system!!!
BOOOOOM!!!!!
Engineer here. Great interview guys but please use the correct term for energy storage: “kilowatt-hours”. Not “kilowatts”. You said, Randy, that words matter. This matters. You don’t refer to speed as “miles”, rather “miles-per-hour”.
3:08 listen carefully to ELON'S words.
SO TRUE!!
Might be good for you two to build a weekly discussion
As soon as i saw that your guest doesnt even know that powerpack was discontinued years ago – i just ended the video. Its clear that warren was educating this guy and not the reverse
44:05. A truer statement has never been made!
Why would you assume that when the cost of goods decreases, the sales price will stay the same 7 years from now. Everything related to technology including batteries, solar panels, EVs, semiconductor chips, software, inverters, etc decreases in price over time – Moore’s Law, Wright’s Law.
I heard that they are building the Semi by hand. They currently don’t have an automated factory in Nevada.
One Robotaxi does the work of about 5 cars. One Semi EV does the work or replaces the pollution of of 20 cars, therefore the Semi is more mission critical for the environment and sustainability than the Robotaxi, although the one Robotaxi is much more profitable than the one Semi over a 5, 10, or 15 year period.
It’s unlikely that a shipping company will get involved in the energy arbitrage business. They are not utility companies. The lack the knowledge, expertise, and probably the desire to enter the utility industry.
It would be better for Tesla to own the Megachargers and Megapacks that are installed at Pepsi, Walmart, and any of their other Semi customer’s shipping routes. Tesla has the expertise to use the Megapacks to their maximum efficiency by selling the electricity to their Semi customers while at the same time using the Megapacks and Autobidder for energy arbitrage. Tesla would also be more incentivize to install solar or wind for the Megapacks to reduce cost and increase recurring profits.
Most of the smaller cost conscious shipping companies don’t have the money to buy Megapacks and would prefer to buy the electric from a Tesla owned MegaCharger/Megapack installation along their shipping routes destination points.
15:55 Warren you are WRONG and Randy is correct on Lathrop's production ramp rates. Please don't be so rude to Randy, he knows what he talking about…
Warren, I couldn't help but notice the vehicle in the background picture during your recent discussion with Randy Kirk. Could you expound on what it is? What an interesting design.
Dual use of land under windmills??? Have you ever seen windmills fail–This would be a serious health hazard. Farming is the safer option.
One if the best guests to challenge and compliment Warren
Mega pack cost would impact semi cost
Do you buy food .,yes you say well like all the goods that are to be moved from "A" to "B" must have the costs come from the costs of doning business . ., There is no advantage in maxing out the cost of shipping. Inflation as we know it comes not from magic words … But from the cost of the truck and the cost of the maintenance diesel gas oil all of it. When reduced because of efficiencies the cost of all things provided and
must be reduced or should be…
They would have ten Lathrop factories right now if they had the batteries. The facts are we are still battery restrained. So both of you are wrong. Haha just my opinion.
