I worked at Tesla starting in July of 2017 as an Operations Analyst out of the Bethlehem, PA distribution center facility and left as a Program Manager based out of Austin, TX as of September 2021. I spent most of my time in the distribution and supply chain organizations.

Before Tesla, I was a Director of Business Intelligence and Pricing at the largest Pet Food & Supply distributor in the US, Phillips Pet Food & Supplies based out of Easton, PA. My wife and I also owned a small business in Bethlehem, PA between 2016 and 2019.

My thoughts are my own and are not representative of everyone who currently works, or has worked at Tesla.

  1. Farzad, in a couple months or so perhaps a panel of FSD OG's? CyberLyft, Chuck, and Omar. 3 vastly different locations and MO's. Great insight Omar, you rock! Farzad, good show as usual. I thank you both.

  2. Compact for the sports enthusiasts? looking forward to a 2 door coupe with solid style points like a 93 Acura Integra hatchback with rear tail. Or a bit of Miata style. Something that looks great, drives fast, grips the road, with decent suspension. I'm down!

  3. Thank you for making the time, Omar. This should be a quarterly conversation. A round table with you two, Rob, James D and Dave would be top shelf.

  4. I was under the impression that they didn’t want to put LiDAR regardless of price because it complicated the decision making of the ai if the LiDAR didn’t agree with the vision/radar data.

  5. 80% of the Megapack is the battery which CATL makes most profit on. Tesla is not capable of making LFP as is evidenced by the lack of IRA subsidy for their LFP model. Do some research on CATL supplied grid storage in China and Australia. And then find out what BYD is doing with grid storage

  6. First off, great discussion. Huge TSLA bull here! With the utmost respect, I want to say that I'm starting to fear that TSLA bulls always seem to think we're in a transitionary period. I would love for someone to debunk this theory and show me an historical period during which widespread consensus amongst TSLA bulls was NOT "we are in a transitional period right now". Since TSLA is so innovative and constantly moving as fast as possible, it might be particularly difficult to identify transitionary periods.

I'd be curious to hear from all the TSLA YouTube bulls on this, and see a visual representation charting confidence in their TSLA bull thesis on a scale from 0 to 100 since IPO. We could then combine these and extrapolate a consensus for confidence over historical periods amongst a well informed group of people, and then compare this to the valuations during those periods. Would be a fun exercise!

  7. Cost saving from suppliers is not hitting this quarter…Elon has said as much. Supply contracts cause a slight lag . 1Q and partially 2Q will have difficulty matching drops in ASP with an equal decline in supplier COG. I am sure they have tightened some inputs, but a good portion will be renegotiated in time to hit following quarters.

  8. Hey farzad I totally agree, you and omar should totally do this every quarter, the way you guys evaluate and analyze the details most people dont think about really gets me and I'm sure many others thinking more.

  9. This was a fantastic interview, perhaps your best ( until Elon comes on ). Omar is really well spoken and offers a ton of great perspective. Please try and do these quarterly!

  10. I like positive thinking as that shapes reality. However, actual numbers look pretty dismo and might be hard on small retail investors who try to get by. I wish there was a buyback. That would be the only thing that could save the small investors

  11. Great talk, thanks guys! So – I’m presuming you both drive teslas with Hardware 3 – how do you think the drive experience will change with hardware 4?

  12. Omar you are unique in your contribution to the Tesla conversation. Just in the same way Elon explains things you have that gift too. I do not drive a Tesla (yet) so as someone who doesn’t, you really explain a lot of things for me I wouldn’t otherwise know. The small details matter and they bring people like me along for the ride because I can visualize Tesla now and in the future. Thanks to you both.
