This was fun. My horror host here in the dismal state of Indiana was Bob Carter a.k.a Sammy Terry host of Nightmare Theater. As far as I know, Bob was the longest running horror host in T.V. history standing at 21 straight years, 1963 to 1984 on WTTV Ch. 4. He continued to play Sammy on stage over the following years and he would also pop on and off on Ch.4 for Halloween specials until his retirement in 2009 or 10.
Bob passed away in 2013 and his son Mark Carter (almost a perfect clone of his dad in looks and voice) took up the mantel of Sammy Terry in 2011 and has been playing the part to this day.
Huge Dark Shadows fan and was thrilled to be involved!

I so wish we had a local horror host here! We used to have The Ghost Host back in the 70's and 80's. Miss those days.
Dr. Sarcofiguy – totally agree with you! Professor Anton – so funny, I've labeled myself a "born again" Dark Shadows fan too – because I "discovered" it just over a year ago and am totally taken with it and the character of Barnabas. Tim and Stevie – Ghould (Gold?) Beach Oregon? Danielle this was fantastic!
In New York, older fans will recall with fondness local horror host of renown, (John) Zacherle in the 1960s. He was popular enough to appear on The Mike Douglas Show, and his show was funny as he was, and he would sometimes have a running commentary during the movie, like Mystery Science Theater did years later. Zacherle later became a radio DJ on New York radio where he had a very successful run.
