Many of the people interested in the human exploration of space are ready to accept the idea that sooner or later we can go to Mars to build a permanent base, and even large settlements; but to the same people, the prospect of transforming the planet’s environment to adapt it to the needs of us on earth seems instead pure fantasy or, at best, a technological challenge to be projected into a very distant future.
But are things really like that? Will we ever terraform Mars?
A point of view, that of these people, completely shared and worthy of respect… But although it is currently a cold, dry and probably lifeless planet, according to many other experts, Mars has all the elements necessary to sustain life: water, carbon, oxygen and nitrogen. Not to mention that several of its physical characteristics, such as gravity, rotational speed and axial tilt, are virtually identical to those of the Earth and make it the ideal candidate for a future terraforming attempt.

It only took you a minute to be wrong. Mars and Earth gravity are not the same. Mars Gravity is 38% of Earth. The MARS core is also frozen and the magnetic field cannot protect it from solar radiation. Releasing more gasses into the atmosphere without fixing the magnetic field will cause them to be blown into space.
If adding a few ppm of co2 causes global warming on earth then why not on Mars?
If solar wind blew away Martian atmosphere then why doesn't it do so on Venus? Venus has an even weaker magnetosphere than Mars and much stronger solar winds. But it's atmosphere stays put.
Being able to genetically engineer self-replicating organisms tailored to an environment would definitely be a useful terraforming technology.

Given all the issues people have cited in these comments, I think that the path to colonizing Mars and other alien worlds will be going post-biological. Going post-biological would make humanity virtually immortal and make even the death of our sun easily survivable. Merging with machines means directly benefiting from Moore's Law and nanotechnology, and this will make it possible to humanity to thrive on less and less energy and materials. (Just think of how inefficient the first computers were compared to what we have today. And those first computers were from decades ago, not hundreds, thousands, or millions of years ago.) Better yet, being post-biological also means no longer requiring oxygen, water, food, dietary fiber, Vitamin D3 supplements, Vitamin B12 supplements, magnesium, selenium, and other biological needs. Thus, we wouldn't even need the Earth anymore. In fact, the cold vacuum of outer space can be a more benign environment for machines than Earth. Just look at how long the Voyager spacecraft have been flying through space.
Given enough time, humanity may one day be able to power itself with less energy than what it takes to power up a light bulb. By that point, even a parent star wouldn't be necessary, and humanity could easily traverse interstellar space.
Would it be a waste of time terraformimg Mars when it has bugger all magnetic field 🤔
We may never change the surface of Mars. We can still build a world underground on Mars. We should concentrate on building habitats in space not on other planets. In the end that will work much better than changing planets or moons.

Terraforming Mars is very possible but the problem with Mars is that it won't be able to sustain it without constraint upkeep. Ideally when you terraform a planet, it should be able to remain within terraformed parameters on its own without any additional input.

Grab thousands of asteroids from the belt, put them in a stably orbit above mars, let them form into a moon similar to ours and bam, lots of activity back on mars down to a geological level.
One issue to hold all this sci-fi thinking back: gravity. humans can't function for long in Mars' small gravity. And there's no way you can change that through terraforming. You'd need another form of human to live there permanently.

Climate change will eradicate technological civilization on the Earth no later than 2040 as we have successfully veneraformed the Earth.
Terraforming Mars on a realistic timescale is not possible. There may be insufficient co2 and there is certainly not enough nitrogen. The low gravity and lack of a magnetic field is also a problem. People will have to live underground on Mars and can only go out with spacesuits. It will be a great place for AI robots to live autonomously though.

The biggest problem I have with all this talk about making a, currently uninhabitable planet, suitable for human resettlement is. Why can’t we just make our own planet remain habitable? What will we do if we actually terraform mars and make it our new home, then destroy it like we did with earth? Do we then look to an uninhabitable earth and repeat the process?

It's been 50 YEARS since the first moon landing and we haven't even gone back. Mars is 1000 times more difficult to reach
The atmospheric pressure of Mars' atmosphere isn't 6% that of Earth's. It's 0.6%! That's extremely feeble. In fact if you put a normal photosynthetic plant from Earth on the surface of Mars, it won't even be able to "breathe in" and will just suffocate and die.
Once again no mention of the fact that mars has a solid core hence no magnetosphere which would make life impossible.

I think terraforming mars outside buildings isn’t profitable in the long run because of a solar wind that strips any created atmosphere, but terraforming inside greenhouses would be a far more plausible and easy option.

Most simplest idea is to build co2 mineing device in venus outher atmosphare and shoot bricks via calculated trajectory to mars. Venus temperature drops and mars rises. Slowly but still
It will take at least two solid Iron asteroids to start and then a few Ice comets. Should really have started 25 Million years ago, but good luck.
Now at the same time that is cooking, can we spend time learning how to live in space on this big porch we miraculously possess?
Anything less on Mars means sitting in, living in, and constantly breathing in, a bucket of rust. The Moon can teach us a lot.
