Terraforming Mars The Dice Game | Is It Better Than Ares Expedition?

I test out and review Terraforming Mars the Dice Game. I also compare it to Ares Expeditions and finally pick my favorite to keep forever. Only one will be left standing, which one will it be? #boardgaming #tabletopgaming #boardgames

  1. All valid points, great overview. I feel like this is a dice manipulation puzzle game first, and if you come into it from that perspective, it's really fun. If you come at it as build up your engine of cards game, it definitely then feels like there is a ton of randomness. Thanks for the shout out, it is appreciated!

  2. I loved watching this video. It’s very informative and very clear, because the visuals really support your story. It is pleasant to listen to your voice and I also like how you paint a picture of how both games feel to play. I love TM Ares expedition, I mostly play it solo. And I also am a huge fan of dice mitigating / engine building games. Good to know that the engine building aspect of the dice game still has a lot of luck involved. But I will check it out! Thanks for putting this video together!

  3. Only game i really really like with dice is castles of burgundy. I'll play others, but it seems like I'm better of just sticking to the original TM, was debating getting this one though. Thank you for the insights!

  4. Mark @ EvilMachine has fantastic designs. In fact, I consider him most responsible for me diving into 3D printing when I saw that he sold his designs as STL files (so you can print them yourself at a fraction of the cost). I asked him a few questions about printers/filament to buy, and he replied with so much great & thoughtful information… far more than I expected a newbie like me to receive. If you're a friend of Mark, that's just one more reason to love your channel. 🤓

  5. I just got my copy of the Dice game yesterday and have played 3 times already. Both my wife and I LOVE the original TFM and were hoping for a game that scratched that itch in less time for those days when we didn't have a couple hours to really dive in. The dice game, so far, seems to do that. On our second play, we finished the base game in an hour flat. For the third play, we added in all the corporate era cards and kickstarter promos, which, as expected, stretched it out to about an hour and a half. Those added cards really make a big difference in feel, as they tend to be more powerful. We'll see how it goes as we get more plays in, but as of now, definitely happy with this one.
As for Ares Expedition, neither of us enjoy the competitive version of the game, especially at 2 players. This definitely did not fit the bill for "scratching the itch in less time" as, at least for us, it takes the same time as the original and isn't nearly as fun. Now, we only play it co-op. If it weren't for that, I'd sell it.
