  1. The Custodes are such singular entities, I’m always struck by how awe-inspiring and simultaneously disturbing their existence is. For all intents and purposes they are semi-divine living weapons, on a level with the Emperor mentally and spiritually that even the Primarchs couldn’t match. I generally come away, as I did with this piece, equal parts inspired and saddened. Inspired from the Custodes perception of the grand scheme of the human experience across the galaxy, and saddened that at his end the Custodes perhaps was able to see past the gene-coded loyalty built into his essence, how futile the idea of a united human empire was. Awesome work as usual.

  2. Interesting POV, since the Custodes have been at the Emperor's side pretty much since the beginning of the Emperium. And, they know what has been squandered and lost/destroyed, so no wonder that they would be slighted, and I'm putting it very mildly. Shame that it's impossible to add a Custodes to every Astartes Chapter in a way similar to Chaplain's, so that they would share they experiences with them, it would have hugely improved said Chapters, imo. Another great story, as always. Thank you Mr. Duxbury and VOX! The Emperor protects (maybe).

  4. "They speak of their slavery and the embracing of their chains" is such an unbelievably powerful line from the custodian’s perspective when describing the traitor marines. Well done, my friend this was a pleasure to listen to!

  5. I like how he wrestles with his humanity, and the idea of his granted freedoms… his lack of choice… tho hard coded into him, i think its about understanding there is no other choice, there is no "let them live" its the grand vision, the understanding the nature of reality, going with anyone else, any other choice is failure. They choose the true path…which is why dissenting voices are not tolerated.
Humanity does not deserve the Emperor.

  6. Humanity does not deserve the Emperor eh? You're right we deserve better than a petty sorcerer tyrant. He gave us a Galaxy and we spat in his face? Hardly, he gave himself a Galaxy and sought to aggrandize himself far above his station. Truth? Reason? His every word was a lie! His reason was a denial of empirical fact. The true and blessed sons of the Urizen extinguished this golden golem. Justice.

  7. "If he had proved a tyrant and a warlord, a sorcerer and a liar, it would not have mattered." Mate, you don't need the 'if'. He is all of those things my guy. Were you not aware of what happened at the Palace Coup? Weren't there custodians at Molech?

  8. A perfect story to represent the walking paradox that are the Custodies and how they hate the very thing their Sovereign gave everything to save. How they hate what I think in some sense is themselves. They are too human, and not human at all. They can never be free, and I think some of their hate for humanity is because they know it, and it eats at them. As he said – What is loyalty?

  9. This is more validation for my undying hatred of the Custodes. Mindless robots that aren't even capable of comprehending the concept of free will. When he said he didn't matter about the emperor in about all the things he could have been, but wasn't, he's just showing how deluded he is. The emperor is all those bad things, and more. And the jealousy over the Primarchs…not even befitting an overgrown child, especially when he's looking up at Horus. Humanity does not deserve the Emperor, it deserves much better.
