After spending a few weeks with the teenage engineering OP-XY, I’m sharing my honest thoughts and key discoveries about this unique device. In this candid review, I’ll compare the OP-XY with the OP-Z (the inspiration behind this product), discuss what I like and don’t like so far, and share my personal experience purchasing it. If you’re considering getting the OP-XY or just curious about its features, this video is for you. Let’s dive into the details together!

I have the rumble on mine too, just got it. Only $30. It’s honestly awesome. I wouldn’t have paid the full price when it came out, but I wouldn’t not have it now. Plus it adds weight. Not having photomatic and motion is a huge miss. That’s probably the second thing besides immediacy/fast sequencing that makes the z such a one of a kind product.
New update out today!
I feel getting free products will inherently foster bias. I trust the reviews where someone bought the product full price. I’m not being negative on your review. I love your channel.
Op-z video and DMX features were totally under appreciated and under used. The video pack thing was probably too complicated for most people to make their own stuff. I never got much further than making pre made models dance a little. I never got the USB DMX interface to sequence lights either.
I know you're not worried about those trolls.
You can always block them as negative.
Don't worry about what other people say negative about you.
You're doing a good job
. God bless you.
Keep up the hard work.
I personally don’t like when they load preloaded sounds. I guess I’m less inspired by most of the sounds they give. The scramble sound feature is sick.
You have two inputs; one is a multi-port, meaning you can change it from MIDI, CV, or Audio In as your second input if you want. It's amazing you can route audio out and back in to FX your sounds and sample back in. I wish the OP-1 Field had that. Thanks for posting your opinions on it.
The Teenage Engineering Field Desk is also amazing! $1,599
I’ll take higher quality DAC’s over the radio any time.
PS: button 2 on the mixer page is the EQ, and button 3 is the saturation.
Why is pricing for this company's products laughably high for these little synths?
Hello friend!
Op-1 field vs op-xy please help.
Which is superior ?
It would be nice if they could put undo, autochop, lazy chop.
I really like this can chop samples
It’s great
You fully expected them to give one to you for free?
It really bums me out how many dislikes you got on a product no one even had used yet. I get it, people vehemently hate TE and the OP-XY's price. But if they don't like the price, they don't have to buy it or watch it. I just hope it doesn't deter you from making content that we so appreciate from you.
I got it for half price. TE gave me one for my channel. I wouldnt pay full price though.
Have you attempted to export tracks/ sequences as MIDI for use in a DAW? That's something l've been wondering about.
I would love a Field. I have the OG. XY doesn’t seem as inspiring to me with a sequencing work flow. It looks nice. Also incredible video quality! I enjoyed watching this. Bummer XY doesn’t have the radio feature.. that is a super dope and inspiring feature with sampling.
fyi if you click in the second or third encoders when editing a sample it zooms in to the playhead for greater accuracy!
That 2hr Anderton's YT video was FANTASTIC, and made me REALLY want to get one. haha
You can also hold however many tracks you can with your fingers in the arranger and lower or raise the mixes together with the knobs.
Welcome to the club of OP-XY owners! I’m really enjoying mine and would be happy to see what you cook with it!
As for the haters, ignore them. I know you’ve said previously that you were not going to buy it because your priorities in life have shifted recently and dropping this much money on a product was not an option. Whatever happened since then – it shouldn’t really matter to anyone. You’ve got the product now, you’re enjoying it, and that’s most important. And thank you for being transparent with us, this goes a long way!
Keep rocking!
Solid video. People get so weird about TE products. Feels like it’s either all or nothing with them, all hate it all love. I have both OP1s and I love them and would be all over this but that price is too much right now and that’s ok. I’m not sure why people want to be offended by the price so bad. You know what you’re getting with TE pricing at this point 😂. I also love Andertons videos because they have great musicians who really demo the products and Jack is always very enthusiastic and I think that’s missing from product demos lately. I do find it funny that some people with small channels got this but others didn’t but I don’t know how any of that works lol. Please make more videos showcasing what it can do.
I’ve been following you since you started. In my opinion this is by far your best video. Major respect for your REAL true thoughts. Positives and negatives. I haven’t seen someone else properly compare and point out the short comings compared to the Z like you did. Very fair analysis. Thank you
As a big OP-Z fan I've enjoyed your Z content, so the comparison between the Z and XY is greatly appreciated. All of the hype over the XY and whether it's worth it has made me appreciate the amazing, tiny, powerhouse OP-Z more than ever.
I really like the Andertons channel too, Jacks energy and excitement for synths and music in general is infectious!
