Why did you skip shows like Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk?
This is one of my favorite things Marvel ever did. It’s shorter than the average movie or show released by Marvel because it’s a Special Presentation. They did this for Halloween and it’s supposed to kind of be it’s own thing not really connected to the main MCU that you’ve been following. I love that they chose to tribute the classic horror era and do this in Black and White ( which is definitely the best version snd intended audience experience even though the technicolor version is cool as well) and model the Werewolf design after the original Wolfman ( 1940s “The Wolf-man” specifically). It made me so happy to see that as that’s my favorite classic horror movie and overall monster. I don’t know if they will ever bring Jack and Ted back but I really hope they do, I’d love to see it.
I'm so glad Werewolf By Night, Man-Thing, Elsa Bloodstone and all the more obscure Marvel horror characters got the spotlight for once.
The thing about werewolves is that they are susceptible to silver. Magic doesn't generally work on them, with the exception of minor, non-harmful spells. And any weapons not made of silver can hurt, and disfigure, but not kill. Also, any wounds inflicted by non-silver weapons heal very quickly. Good example is the Wolfman from Monster Squad(1985), when he was blown to bits with a stick of dynamite, and it took awhile to put himself back together, but he did. There is also a plant called wolfsbane that repels them, sort of the same way with garlic and vampires.
Werewolf By Night is unique in that his family's curse works differently from Lycanthropy. But he's more or less like any other werewolf, except he eventually develops the ability to transform at will, and the ability to speak while in hybrid form.
This is a wildly underrated movie/project/thing.
I forgot about this show. It’s one of Marvels best work in my opinion since it’s so unique. Black Panther got mixed reviews, partially because it’s a 3hr movie and feels like a 3hr movie. Phase 4 ends with Black Panther, then it’s on to phase 5 with Ant Man Quantamania. God that movie sucked but maybe you guys will like it
Hey Octobers! I love that u watched WEREWOLF BY NIGHT. I saw this when it 1st came out, & I loved it. I'm really into movies about supernatural creatures. Don't really know anything about the Marvel Comics that these characters are taken from. I read some comments & found out about Ted aka Man-Thing. Thing is Man-Thing closely resembles Cthulhu (Ca-thu-lu) a creature created by HP Lovecraft, maybe the person who created Man-Thing was inspired by him. Lovecraft wrote a sub-genre of supernatural horror known as cosmic horror. Anyway, really enjoyed your reactions to the movie.😊
What a weird movie🤣 no idea what was going on the whole time. Funny but strange 🤣
They are so introducing the magic corner of the MCU which has always existed for a while they were building out the cosmic corner such a guardians of the galaxy , captain marvel learning about other planets. So after doctor strange, so magic and sorcery is introduced then you get witches now you get more of that faction because eventually I think they want to create midnight sons which is a marvel team made up of super natural characters.
Id love a sequel to this really enjoyed werewolf by night
Nice! I hadn’t got around to watching this show. definitely watching it tonight.
It'll be cool if Marvel made a black and white Midnight Sons movie that gets released theatrically i think it'll be a fun movie going experience man
just a lil context for you. When Ted burns off the head of that hunter, that was his main power AND the tag-line under the title. "Those who know fear burn at the touch of the Man-Thing" Good job guys. Btw: if you haven't watched it yet, there's one more Marvel Special Presentation that you HAVE to see. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. ❤
I thought this was really good and fresh cinematic work by Disney/Marvel. I was a little dismayed because fandom reviews early were negative but since then I've seen a lot of filmmakers and actors weigh in and they thought the same thing. The only downside is it's too short and that's only because it's that enjoyable. On a side note I noticed we have the
Steve Gerber Trinity now in film between Howard The Duck, Man-Thing and Jennifer Kale.
As far as direction I know they have pushed for supernatural stuff but I think they just wanted to make a quality Halloween special that is a homage to the old black and white Universal Monster movies here. I don't think this made as a pivot point for the MCU or anything. Honestly I would rather they did more with that in mind and less cape stuff and padding for Avengers movies.
Black & White? Watch Casablanca.
His name is Theodore "Ted" Sallis aka Man-Thing… I think Marvel did this to possibly start up another group called "The Legion of Monsters" in the future. Sallis was once human, a scientist for S.H.E.I.L.D.. He was trying to create a newer formula to replace the Super Soldier Serum. In the comics he has had allegiances with Dr. Strange, Dakimh, Spider-Man, Howard the Duck, Morbius and Werewolf By Night. He's been apart of teams like The Howling Commandos, and The Thunderbolts. I think he was also part of The Daydreamers and the Fearsome Four
Ted is manthing a swamp monster
It’s always what Marvel has done in the past with the comics is to have a diversity of characters and subjects. I knew of this title when I used to collect comics but didn’t think it would be good but they really did a good job with this movie to make me interested in it.
This is lowkey my favorite Marvel movie of all time! It just has a unique feeling to it unlike the others 🧛🏻🐺🩸 (16:52 Ted is so cute 🥺) 24:26 I felt like Jack would’ve been way much better if he was more taller and built as a werewolf it would’ve made him stand out more 🐺 28:05 Ted just reminds me of some mythical creature 😭
Before they started making superhero comic books, Marvel was famous for their horror comics. This is just a throwback to what they were famous for back in the day. They might as well embrace their horror roots.
I love the black & white and the mild imperfections where you can see editing like they did in the 50s 60s. little marks on the screen. It's very slight if you never saw it
Good old man thing. One of my favorite comics in the eighties
Night of the living dead should be seen just for the black and white fun of it.
For the most part Man-Thing(Ted) was made of ‘swamp sludge’ and had no intelligence – the swamp he resided in contained a portal to the multiverse and he became the protector of it. His tag line, or close to it, was “Those he know fear burn at the Man-Things touch” 😳 Say what you will about the Marvel Universe franchise but the amazing thing is that it has created a genre of movies so big that they can explore different genres with in it self – they have action(like Avengers and Spider-Man), science fiction(Guardians of the Galaxy), fantasy(the first two Thor movies and Doctor Strange), and now with this one-shot and technically the last Doctor Strange movie(the director Sam Rami has his directorial roots in horror with Evil Dead and Drag Me to Hell) the Marvel Universe now has horror – Blade would have been the next horror flic(Blade originally being a character in the Marvel comic ‘Tomb of Dracula’ from the 70s) but will have to see if that will be made – Ghost Rider is another example of horror but I have not heard anything in regards to that coming out – the next horror will be Marvel Zombies based on a a comic series and a ‘What If’ animated episode which explores what would happen if super heroes became zombies 😬
2025 marvel gonna be loaded make sure you guys get a theaters experience highly recommend it
This was a one-off project, but Marvel does have a whole horror franchise with Werewolf by Night, Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, Man-Thing (Ted), Ghost-Rider, Blade, Brother Voodoo, Hellstorm (formerly aka Son of Satan) and other creepy characters. Hopefully, they'll dip more into that side of Marvel's portfolio at some point.
Sry guys.. anything Disney is garbage and their woke agenda is garbage..hard pass… they'll never get a second of my attention again.💩
You must watching Moonknight, vibes like warewolf, in the comic his closely connected
Ted(Man-Thing)is Marvels version of DC Swamp Thing
Glad you choosed the black & white version because it's meant to be a tribute to the classic Universal Monsters of the 30's & 40's such as Dracula & Frankenstein.
The Werewolf design & make-up is definitely a tribute to the Wolf Man, starring Lon Chaney Jr.
(His dad, Lon Chaney Sr., played The Phantom in the silent movie version of Phantom of the Opera. He was also known as "The Man With A Thousand Faces")
Ted is known as The Man-Thing, he's basically Marvel's answer to DC's Swamp Thing. But If I remember correctly Man-Thing came out first, but Swamp Thing got a lot more attention & got his first live action appearance in the 80's with a sequel.
Man-Thing actually got a live action movie in the early 2000's that not everybody knows of & those who has seen it says it's not good.
Marvel started with its monster line up in the 70's with Werewolf By Night, Tomb of Dracula & Frankenstein.
The Man-Thing is Dr. Theodore "Ted" Sallis
