A “driverless” bus service set to begin in Scotland will use sensors to navigate roads at speeds of up to 50mph, with a “safety driver” remaining behind the wheel to handle twists and turns.
The service will operate on a trial basis until 2025 with a fleet of five Alexander Dennis Enviro200AV vehicles.

SkyNews: Self driving busses open to passengers in Scotland.
Eventually… in other news.
BBCNews: With some horrifying news that self-driving truck crashes itself killing 20 passengers this morning.
Bloody robots, coming to the UK, taking jobs meant for Brits😠
This driver teach him passenger how to scream
Seems like a great idea to me. Staff must easily be among the biggest costs for a bus service, remove them and it'll become economically viable to offer far more frequent services across the country for lower prices. If they can demonstrate that it consistently runs on its own with a comparable or better safety record to the average driver then this technology could eventually revolutionise bus travel.
what could possibly go wrong
What a stupid idea
Don’t let the bus drop below 50
"great" so in near future many million drivers will lose their jobs… We love technology, don't we? P.s. i wonder, who will be responsible if there will be accident and people will lose their lives if no driver taking place?
seems a bit silly that the bus will be more expensive and require 2 members of staff to run it instead of one. It’s good progress towards automation but is it really needed?
no hands o the wheel…did that in 2002 in the guideway which also was white elephant
If there’s someone sat behind the wheel why waste the extra money on a driverless bus? Just buy more regular buses!
I said I was going on a jog later but I got lazy and ordered a maccies
Nobody will be on a bus in 2040. And if it can't handle a bridge in Scotland it's NEVER going to handle Tokyo.
This is a way of paying less money to the driver. They will put someone there with no license on minimum wage because they will say the bus drives itself.
Self driving with a driver🙄🙄🙄 and what's going on with his hair?
I do not have a dead wish to get on a bus like that!
Good onya Scotland 👍👏
Way to go Scotland
They tried this in Oslo a few years back. It kept crashing and causing horror until it was scrapped. Good luck Scotland. 😂
So a waste if time then …
They can't fix a ferry but they can do this.
Safety driver? It's not a self driving bus any more. China already running real self driving busses no drivers.
Will it stop for the just stop oil idiots sat in the middle of the road. . Hope not.
Money for gimmick and virtue signalling project but still the worst drug problem and teenage pregnancy rates in the developed world
Honestly I’m sick of this utter nonsense
Reading a situation is where the technology needs to focus next. Hence the push with AI.
Computers do have issues with variables unless they are pre-programmed.
It's like they don't want people to have jobs
Self driving bus which needs a "just in case" driver & conductors who were phased out years ago due to cost cutting & being apparently surplus to requirements.
Up to date, future proof tech which for some reason requires 40 yr old staffing levels & work practices,
Just let the guy drive the bus, its been fine for decades
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂 but it has a driver on all the time what's the point
❤
The whole aim of this is to get rid of jobs and salaries. Nothing more!
🤦📉 removing decent jobs bit by bit 👌 perfect
At least there won't be anymore strikes
