Taming the 5-Wristed Watch Monster

Wearing my Seiko SLA023, I talk about the mass hysteria behind the solar eclipse and the “micro hysteria” behind the search for lost Holy Grail timepieces.

  1. Jeff, I am forced to stay clear from the hysteria of the lastest and greatest, the current trend of sub 40mm divers just don’t suit my wrist size of 7.75, if the replacement for the 143 was 42mm,well ? I think the spb453 is .5mm smaller The only positive it’s better for my bank balance and sanity.

  2. McMahon, you’re probably like me, in that we’re both likely emotional extroverts. We are very much tuned into the atmosphere of a room, and if the mood is bad, we reflect that mood easily. That’s why I tend to take a step back from social media and too much bad news, because I’m very susceptible to falling into a spiral of mean world syndrome, and I lose myself way too quickly for the sake of not being the nail that sticks out. Call it conflict avoidance, call it people pleasing, or call it prioritization of group harmony. Have you ever taken an MBTI personality test? If not, I’d be interesting in learning if you’re a fellow INFJ, the rarest type among them.

  3. I'll be in Berkeley next month to watch my son receive his PhD. I'll debate endlessly with myself what the appropriate watch to wear for such a milestone event, but I know already it will be one of my Omegas. But which one? The Speedmaster? The Planet Ocean? The Seamaster Diver 300M? Oh, such a pointless thing to even think about. Such is the curse of the watch enthusiast.

  4. It’s definitely a hobby filled with insanity. Keep on giving us your observations. I really enjoy it. By the way, I observed the eclipse in the path of totality and it was absolutely spectacular! Such a rare and beautiful celestial event. 😊

  5. Where, oh where, can I get a copy of the Bat Out Of Hell Bible?!

I’ve been looking for it all over the internet for the best part of the last 12 minutes and I can tell you it’s utterly impossible to find!

I heard there’s definitely a conspiracy to make it unattainable forever.

Dang, I need to buy a watch to calm down!

  6. Hello, My name is Marcus, I am a "Watchacolholic". I have fond memories of Hamberger Helper, Shake and Bake. I thought "Bat Out of Hell" was the bible. 🙂 Fun video Jeff. Mass hysteria is a thing, created by Media/Marketing and some Politicians(?) Now how can I get my hands on Stainless Steel Rolex(?) 🤔
