TALK TO ME (The Possession Conduit, Purgatory + Ending) EXPLAINED

Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained. As requested today we’ll be exploring Talk to Me, the recently released supernatural horror written and directed by brothers Danny and Michael Philippou in their directorial debut.

Starring Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, Marcus Johnson and Miranda Otto, the Australian film introduces us to a group of thrill-seeking teens who find a peculiar pastime – communing with the dead using an embalmed hand, a relic shrouded in mystery.

Like every ghostly engagement, this one comes with rules, and when our protagonist Mia pushes the boundaries, the restless spirits are keen to make her pay.

The A24 production from the brothers, who rose to prominence with their viral videos on their RackaRacka YouTube channel, uses an original narrative, while winking at established cinematic motifs and real-world rituals, culminating in a hard-hitting finale.

Concurrently, the narrative threads Mia’s ongoing struggle with her mother’s fatal overdose and her desperate attempts to reconnect with her in the afterlife. But as we know, meddling with the dead comes at a cost, and Mia’s fate leads us to a gut-wrenching vision of the afterlife that leaves us grappling with more questions than answers.

  1. The last hand in the ending isn't the one Mia and the others were using it's the other. If you watch the original was the left hand and the one at the end was the right hand

  2. I still don't understand if the ghost ACTUALLY keep the body if they kill the possessed body or are they just killing the host maliciously to trap them in the hand too ? Like how would killing the person you entered allow YOU the ghost to take control of the body, Its a corpse now how the hell are you suppose to use it effectively ? Also what's with Mia getting WORSE as time goes on but Riley gets better over time when its established that just time will weaken the ghost connection connection, was is because she KEPT using the hand ? Like he gets possessed for a whole minute and gets suicidal ghost monster that was getting better within days, she gets possessed for 3 seconds longer than the count and gets a long lasting mental decay ghost that GOT STRONGER and was able to manifest apparitions and hallucinations as time went on .

  3. The films own creation is very interesting as the directors told the audiences at film festivals.

Their miniscule budget is because they used an Australian film studio to run the production. They were approached by American studios, but wouldn't be able to use the actors they wanted for the roles. So they stuck to their guns.

The hand is very much a drug allegory. A lot of inspiration comes from a teenager the brothers have taken under their wings. He very nearly OD'd at a party. Surrounded by idiots laughing and filming. Which lends a sense of reality to the depictions in the film of idiot teenagers endangering themselves and others

  4. The fact a couple YouTubers made this on a low budget really says a lot about the larger companies making scary movies that are inexcusably bad. This movie shocked me at how dragged in I was and it was rather unique and definitely worth a watch. It was fun and kept me intrigued the entire time and the cinematography and just quality of the movie seemed like a very high budget film. All the acting surprised me and the younger actors were extremely believable which is almost never the case with most movies that you can tell are made by older people completely disconnected with modern children and teens or young adults even. I’m hoping more scary movies of this quality will come because this is a gem of the genre instantly for me. The finale was awesome as well and I was prepared to be disappointed for sure.

  6. I was so glad Mia died to be honest 😂 she made terrible selfish decisions the whole movie from being jealous of Jade, letting Riley grab the hand, letting him hold it more than 90 seconds, being obsessed with using the hand and naive thinking that it was her mom, and even at the end letting the spirits nearly let her kill Riley AFTER she killed her dad 💀 I mean SMH she was awful

  7. so was the lady mia let in pretending to be her mom since she already had access to mia?would make sense on why we didnt see mia mom when riley got her because then we would as a audience knew mia was being tricked.and daniel i wonder did he even like jade or girls at all.this movie makes me want to ask questions about every little detail.

  8. It the hand brings people in the why when they want out through the hand they immediately kill or try to kill someone. If the hand can do both let in and in theory let out which we know has to happen a little, more has to be at play. Otherwise the people trapped in the hand should not act rashly to be then be killed again or kill someone or kill themself within the time they have ahold of a person. Why not act like nothing is going so you could live as that person and not in the hand. More is going on, to me the hand is making all of it up no ghost no hellish place, only the little control the hand can get through tormenting the player. Evil for evil sake. If so then the main person was not talking to their mom either way you look at it.

  10. They are already making a porn parody film no joke. But it's called Jerk with me.😂
The hand is either from a chronic masturbator or a fluffer from long ago. Sometimes you have to applaud the funny bullshit they can come up with.

  11. It's about heroin abuse to escape grief and pain.
They have to be tied to the chair with a "belt" and light a candle to go to the other side.
Heroin users use belts on their arms and candles to heat and prepare the heroin.

  13. Mias dad killed her mother. This is FACT. Why you ask? Because Mia can communicate at the end of the movie with the new group of kids using the hand. Mias mom wanted revenge. She ALMOST got it using her child. Why did Mia's dad kill her mom? Because she cheated on him. He poisoned her, left her to die and trapped her in the room. Remember, mom had broken nails from trying to get out of there, she did not WANT to die, even according to her dads letter. Mia messed up by letting in the bloated spirit, and the old man spirit. It looks as if the 2 random spirits were having a battle to get control, all while Mia was getting bad advice from her pissed off Mother because mom knows she can be with her daughter if she dies anyway. Mia learns she can just ASK for her mom and thats where the other spirits have had enough and want her dead. Part 2 will be Mia and her mother getting revenge on her father whos a murderer, only to find out her mom had tons of secrets as well.

  14. A man described having a near death experience similar to the final scene. Let's just say when all the hospital lights went out, horrible things happened to him.
