Syria update: Rebels advance despite strikes by Russian fighter jets | DW News

Rebels in Syria are closing in on the city of Hama, pushing ahead with their assault against government forces. The regime of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad vowed to counterattack when the fighters broke out of their enclave in Idlib and took Syria’s second-largest city of Aleppo last week. It’s causing a massive humanitarian crisis, sparked by the fighting and as Russia carries out airstrikes in support of government forces. Moscow has been Assad’s main supporter in the past. But with Russian forces now fighting in Ukraine, questions are mounting over the Kremlin’s commitment to its Syrian ally.

  3. Syria Iran Lebanon Palestine last few countries in the Middle East where Israel and U.S. have not taken over. All these wars fought by imperial powers U.S. and Israel to crush the last vestige of resistance in the Middle East. As clear as daylight.

  4. I get the feeling Putin is about to call a general mobilisation. His own people know speaking out will earn them a ticket to the front, so there's nothing left to stop him.

  7. 😂it’s fin when the journalist talks of Russian losing Syria already. Remember Russia can send NK troops to the front and send a few hundreds tu support Syria without being a problem. They have a fully fledged navy base at Latakia. You think they will just give up anything ? They are backed by nukes ! They will not even give up Ukrainian invaded territory for Christ sake

  8. Remember when CNN, FOX, SKY, BBC, US, UK & NATO terms militants as ' rebels ', it means they support them. They support them because they serve their agendas. The agenda is only one i.e to ouster Assad and then bring Syria under Rebels and then West will ultimately bombard Syria by saying that these are terrorists. Ultimately neighboring Israel will get opportunity to expand its borders and hence this all was a trap to create Greater Israel which Assad regime with help from Russia has stopped from happening till date. I am not a supporter of Assad, but these fighters backed by a Wolf in Sheep's clothing Turkey which is a member of NATO, are those terrorists that stand with NATO and inshallah on day of judgement they will rise with NATO. Isn't it strange that at the same time, US, UK, NATO, Israel, ISIS, and now these rebels all want to ouster Assad ? Why ? Did this happen in Libya too ?
