This is one of the most kickass albums out there. It's pinnacle Symphony X in my opinion. Shame they had one more album with similar neo-classical influences and then they went into the pure modern metal sound. But Twilight in Olympus, The Divine Wings of Tragedy and V is an incredible streak of 3 insane albums. It's easy to focus on the guitars as Michael Romeo is one of the best out there but if you listen to the keys, drums and bass you'll see that this band is full of insane people lol.
If iam not mistaken this a concept album about a war between ancient Egypt and Atlantis.
Oh I am soooo glad you guys reviewed this album and did it all at once! This is also one of my favorite albums. Very good musicianship and arrangement! Interesting and everlasting concept! Very enjoyable as aways! Best of wishes for you guys and your entire family! Stay strong! 🙂
Russell Allen, one of the greatest voices in the history of metal. And MIchael Romeo, one of the greatest guitar players. Symphony X is a legendary band.
Awesome album, the amount of classical influence and direct usage of classical pieces are great.
Also, the live version is im my opinion better, Russell Allen was a beast at his prime
Great album
Next album reaction symphony x-the odyssey hopefully
glad this is still available, fell asleep during the last song and woke up close to the end of stream. Great stream Wackytor.
It should be "outside of, and throughout time." Space-time is within God, as the sustainer and creator of reality. So He is outside it to the extent that he is able to observe the entire universe, including all of time because it's space-time, time expanding with the spacial expansion of the universe, from an outside perspective, the only truly objective perspective that exists or can exist. But since the universe is His Creation, it is inside Him, so he is also throughout all of space and time. That's Omnipresence, and the how of Omnipresence. It's only us who have the extremely limited perspective of only being able to be in one moment of time at a time, and have to imagine being in other times as time travel, and having to go to a different time, and then get into confusion trying to project that limitation onto God.
Our time-bound nature is another reason why the Biblical afterlife is resurrection rather than Paradise, because if Paradise is external to the material universe, then it's outside time, and we can't comprehend or function outside time, any more than we can live or love without our bodies. We have to live again in the physical universe, in future time because we weren't created to live outside the universe, we aren't the angels. Such a radical transformation of being as would be required to do so would call into question whether it really was us who were given afterlife in an extra-temporal Paradise. That's my same problem with the idea of reincarnation: different body – is it you? I don't think so.
1:40:32 In the Tarot, 13 is the Death card, which is actually not an intrinsically bad card since it means change, the end of a cycle. Sori got me curious about the "bad luck thing" and I just found out there's an entire wikipedia entry about the number 13. One never stops learning shit in this channel.
Wooooooooooo this is good
2:51:20 (or thereabouts where you stopped discussing "Egypt") – too bad you did not notice the subtle differences between the 1st and the 2nd, and final, chorus – it would have explained even more quite clearly… as much as "clear" is possible with lyrics like this. BUT, you were on the right track anyway, the question for me at this point was, does the 2nd chorus get sung by a different protagonist altogether ("the Devil", who conceivably took the Oracle girl for himself), or by the same person of the 1st chorus just revealing his true self (in a "Faustian" motive)?
2:55:30 …and this is – a straight "cover" of Mozart's "Lacrymosa", short and – sweet!
3:18:29 What do you make of that the White one is in fact WALKING on the water?.. I see in this creation by SYMPHONY X an art in many forms, where the "simple" cover art is connected (and essential) to the understanding of the whole concept as much as the music within. You are onto something by returning to the artwork.
27:00 Vin, I told you years ago, that the guitarist for Symphony X (Michael Romeo) was a hybrid of Yngwie & Dime 🤘
What are the background riffs in between the songs.
I have told people this for years.
V is the greatest album ever conceived.
It's not the devil in the traditional sense, it's Pharaoh.
