Picked up this game after your first video and eventually figured out that you can actually see what traits do on a unit at any point. At the bottom right corner of the character stats there's a small button with two arrows. Clicking it goes to another page that explains all of the traits the unit has. You can do this any time you can see a unit's status, including when looking at new recruits in the shop.
