Castlevania SotN almost officially came out for Tiger Electronics’ GameCom system. And actually? It’s incredible. It might be the best Game Com game even if it’s only a prototype. Symphony of the Night has everything you’d hope for while controlling like a pile of jelly. What is a man if he’s never played Tiger Electronics’ portable prototype port of Symphony of the Night?

In this video, I’m showcasing a lost prototype from Tiger Electronics and Konami: a port of the classic Castlevania game, Symphony of the Night (SotN), for the retro gaming Game.Com console. It’s a lost media bonanza!
This GameCom Punching Weight game features the much-loved metroidvania style gameplay, as well as the classic Castlevania characters and storyline, like Dracula, Alucard, Richter Belmont, and Maria. Coping with the different and challenging levels is a challenge, and the graphics and sound are truly amazing. The nearly complete map shocked me during this longplay playthrough. If you’re a gamer who loves classic console games, then you need to check out this lost game!

0:10 The Mold is spreading from Ross to other YouTubers now… Dear God…
This has got to be one of the most impressive unreleased games of all time 🤩
MY NAME IS IN THE END LET’S GOOOOOOO ❤❤❤❤
TLDW homebrew.
I hate to be so skeptical, but do we have any proof this is…real? It does seem pretty convenient that a game with nothing but mockup screenshots suddenly gets entirely dumped on the internet decades later, and that its quality is this high in comparison to its other gamecom contemporaries. It seems to be pushing the system to its limits, which is something most often accomplished by people working after the fact.
This feels more like a fan-project, from some very dedicated fans creating an extremely faithful de-make of SotN for the Gamecom, rather than an actual prototype created in the 90's for this system. There's definitely been some interesting innovations before for the GC that were officially released, I mean heck Resident Evil 2 alone is extremely impressive for what it is, but this one is just a little too impressive, a little too faithful and full of detail. Again, it feels like fans who saw the original screenshots were inspired to make this to see what it might have been like at its peak potential.
And to be clear, that's STILL extremely cool, it might almost even be a little cooler; I'm just in disbelief that this is the real mccoy from the late 90's.
Dude, what is this game?? And who ever pulled the plug on this deserves to be un-born, forever cast into the abyss of unmaking.
"What do you here?" is a correct question by the way
Holy crap. I recently got sotn on the ps4, I WASTED MY MONEY!!!!
The leak is clearly one of the dev team not wanting all that talent lost forever.
"what do you here?" means with are you here 😮💨
Now this is an amazing and obscure relic… it is hard to think of people expending so much effort to make something like this a reality… or half-reality, as the case may be.
Those huge floating skeletons that Tiger stopped from fighting are adorable 💀😍
oh if only grinding for the chakram and chrisagrim were included.. lmao
The fact that this game is mostly complete and isn't half baastonishingly!
SoTN got a GameCom port but not a Switch port
Turok was gonna have a GameCom port but not a PS1 port, what the heck?
Does this have the Saturn content? Probably not, none of the other versions did
This isn't really entirely new info, I can recall reading about this well over a decade ago on the GameFAQ forums. The dump is new as far as I'm aware though, that's fantastic!
They DID THE INVERTED CASTLE???
This is amazing. I can't believe how much of it was completed.
7:21 I know tiger likes to fake screen shots with their games. The gamecom has just as much cancelled games as it does released games. Which is about 20 games. One of these cancelled games was Metal Gear Solid
I can't believe not only is this game is real but it was nearly finished. Thank you for this deep dive
Bat too strong!
this reminds me of the re1 port for the gameboy color shit port but impressive nonetheless
To be fair, Librarian's face is already quite a bit of a mess even in the original.
i recorded all the duke 3d/sotn gamecom adds on vhs since they were the first time i'd ever seen a video game i knew of on normal television (it was a big deal to me for some reason.) then years later wondered why i couldn't find those versions, nice to have some closure now and see sotn in action
and here we all thought that doom and doom eternal on the switch was an impossible port this is actually absolutely mind blowing could you imagine if they did this game on the GBA in the bat animation when you transform actually looks really good
This reminds of me the RE1 GBC port, these devs are too powerful bro
its like if mozart wrote the 9th symphony on a fisher price piano. as a castlevania fan this was a treasure.
This is basically the RE2 N64 port equivalent of a masterpiece which just shouldn't exist on the Tiger GameCom.
I'm so glad this exists & that you were able to take us down this rabbit hole Uncle Derek!
I'm wondering If we'll get the 3DO version of Megaman X3, the first X3 japanese commercials shown the platforms and 3DO were ther alongside PS1 and Saturn.
I hate that when I worked at GameStop, they just threw the demo unit in the trash. I wish I had that dumb thing now.
That bat moonlights in Gotham, cleaning up the streets.
