Imesha, a victim-survivor of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) speaks of her story as a PwD, navigating the tumulous waters of SGBV, social stigma and pregnancy at a young age.
UNDP in #SriLanka works closely with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in strengthening efforts to create a safe shelter network for victim-survivors in Sri Lanka while working to combat SGBV and reduce teenage pregnancies.
Despite its prevalence, it remains shrouded in silence, and victim-survivors are further silenced by a societal reluctance to openly discuss it, making SGBV one of the most widespread human rights violations in our society.
Through raising awareness, educational interventions, supporting safe shelters, protection mechanisms, and enabling access to legal aid, UNDP seeks to continuously provide survivors with comprehensive support and services across multiple sectors.
It is crucial to break the silence and work towards creating a more safe and supportive environment for all.
Help is always a call away.
