Badd Medicine here and its Legally Blonde reaction time

Legally Blonde is a 2001 American romantic comedy film directed by Robert Luketic in his feature-length directorial debut and scripted by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith from Amanda Brown’s 2001 novel of the same name. It stars Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Matthew Davis, Victor Garber, and Jennifer Coolidge. The story follows Elle Woods (Witherspoon), a sorority girl who attempts to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner Huntington III (Davis) by getting a Juris Doctor degree at Harvard Law School, and in the process, overcomes stereotypes against blondes and triumphs as a successful lawyer.

Plot
Elle Woods, a fashion-focused sorority girl, faces heartbreak when her boyfriend, Warner, breaks up with her before heading to Harvard Law School. Determined to prove herself, Elle scores high on the Law School Admission Test and gains admission to Harvard. Facing skepticism from her East Coast peers, Elle strives to excel in her studies. She secures an internship with respected professor Callahan, who’s defending fitness instructor Brooke Windham in a murder trial. Elle exposes inconsistencies in a witness’s story, revealing the true culprit. The trial leads to Brooke’s acquittal, and Elle’s success transforms her relationships and prospects. Rejecting Warner’s advances, Elle thrives at Harvard and forms a strong bond with Vivian, who had once been dismissive of her. Elle graduates with honor, and her romance with Emmett, Callahan’s junior partner, blossoms, leading to a proposal.

  1. I love watching you guys laugh! If you want to see another movie with Matthew Davis, check out Lone Star State of Mind. You will laugh so hard and no one else has reacted to it.

  2. This is actually a guilty pleasure of mine. There's quite a few great quotes from this. One of my favorite is that her video resume for law school has her sunbathing by a pool where a guy whistles at her and she says she uses legal jargon in everyday life and replies to the guy "I OBJECT!" lol.

  3. I've been patiently awaiting your reactions to this movie. I was ECSTATIC to see this pop up first thing when I opened youtube after I got home from worked today. Thanks for making my day a little brighter! You all are awesome!

  4. This role was first offered to Christina Applegate from Married…with Children but she saw it as playing another dumb blonde and did not want to be typecast. The book was set at Stanford Law but the school would not allow filming so Harvard was second choice. David Kidney is actually Oz Perkins who directs and is Anthony Perkins(Psycho) real son.! Sadly Selma Blair who was in Cruel Intentions with Reese has MS. Later Reese would win an Oscar for Best Actress for Walk the Line. The admission counselor was in the tv show Moonlighting with Bruce Willis and Cybil Sheppard. The mom Raquel Welch was in a poster in The Shawshank Redemption and a film star actress/model in her day.

  5. Loved your reaction to this, so glad you enjoyed it!

I’d just add something to your discussion about it being one thing that throws her off and one thing that gets her back on track.
The nature of what happened was essentially Elle being sexualised and objectified – something we see happening to her continuously at the start of the film and even part way through her time at Harvard. But she changes her attitude to be more serious and dresses differently – still herself but more formal. And after all that she’s still seen as a piece of meat. Like this isn’t a one-off thing, but the reason it really gets to her is like ‘wow even if I change all these things and work incredibly hard to be taken seriously by my peers and superiors, they will still objectify and sexualise me’.
And the same way that all the other times it’s supportive women who have pulled together to help her see how amazing she is, again we have a supportive woman who just happens to be a superior and a role model who is there for her that time, and helps her get back on track.
So yeah like not just one thing, it’s a culmination of her life experience and how she’s perceived and yet she continues to fight to be herself and I think that’s what’s so striking and inspiring about her character 😊💖

  6. Good movie, a lot of fun, thanks for the enjoyable reaction. I recommend the sequel as well, it's more of the same but still enjoyable. If you want to see an earlier Reese movie with a cast of future stars as well, check out Cruel Intentions. It's a teen movie, but I think you'll like it. It's based on a book called "Les Liaisons dangereuses" and there's a more adult movie truer to the original work, Dangerous Liaisons. That movie is also stacked with talent. Creult Intentions came out in 1999 and has both Reese and Selma Blair in it (I don't think they share time on screen together though)

  7. Interesting to see a group of guys watching this! You all got the not judging a book by its cover and believing in yourself message, but I was surprised you didn't touch more on the how its also about the trials of being a woman, and especially an unapologetically feminine woman like Elle, in professional spaces. Elle's traditionally feminine qualities like her kindness and generostiy, got her labeled as weak or a push over. Her blondeness only really categorized her as "dumb" or frivolous, but the way she was sexualized and demeaned is just part of being a woman. There's also the way Warner just swaps out girlfriends in order to maintain whatever image he wants to give off, like women are accessories to him. But it also portrays sisterhood, not only with her sorority, but with Jennifer Coolidge's character, and with Vivian. She was never mean to anyone who didn't deserve it. And she won without compromising her kindness or principles. What happened with her and Pr. Callahan is all too common. As you also saw something similar happen with Starlight and The Deep in The Boys.

  8. I think its funny how y'all kept saying that Matthew Davis was a quarterback. His next movie after this one was Blue Crush in witch he played a Pro Bowl quarterback on vacation in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl.

  9. Most of your subscribers would probably beg you to skip the sequel, but I'm one of the few people on the planet who enjoyed it as much as the original. Sure, it's a retread of the same story with the same moral, but still very entertaining and well worth your time. Even if you don't react to it, put it on your rainy Sunday list of movies you want to watch someday.

  10. I unironically love this movie and I'm so glad you guys liked it too! I've never been particularly in touch with my feminine side but I still found Legally Blonde empowering when I was a kid. One of my favorite things is that Elle and Vivian get to become friends instead of going down a whole "not like other girls" route.

  11. As always, I love your reactions!
I would love to make a request. I don't know if someone has made it before but considering how insightful you are, I think it would be nice if you could react to the Korean drama "The Glory".
It goes deep into Korean issues with bullying

  12. this has been one of my favorite movies since it came out. i was pre-law at the time and getting ready to apply for transfer to a 4-year school for my bachelor’s degree. i had thought about applying to Harvard but this movie reminded me how stuffy they are lol. ended up at Wellesley (just outside of Boston) and was able to take classes at both Harvard and MIT for free because of their enrollment reciprocity with each other. so i got the best of both worlds 😃 loved your reaction to this one!

  13. Elle’s friend in the cheerleading uniform is Alanna Ubach! Most recently she was the voice of Mama Imelda in Disney’s Coco, and I hear she is in Euphoria. Back around the time of this movie she had been in a lot of things, such as the Brady Bunch Sequel and Sister Act 2.

  14. Not a movie that any of us were expecting to be as good as it was. And set out to disprove stereotypes and did so very well. Professors, students, Elle herself, and many other stereotypes. Also it's just damn fun.
