  1. It amaze me quick progress of Starship and Starbase but probably lots of money goes into that project what is future who will open lots of doors no doubt and what its good thing. Mostly new thing cost a lot so funded is needed in many areas that they succed.     Start a petition to preserve ISS as a UN protected monument.
    It should be included with the Luna Human Landing sites as major achievements in human history.
    Send the ISS to a higher more stable orbit and moth ball it until StarShip and other bring down the cost to preserve it or turn it into a remote facility.

  4. Just a slight correction, the vehicle to deorbit the ISS doesn't "push the station down", it basically puts the brakes on, slows the ISS so it can no longer stay in orbit. As you're aware, it's velocity that keeps the station in orbit. If you want it to deorbit, you just slow it down.

  6. When I saw the centered flaps on the top of SS I couldn't understand why they weren't placed out of the way of the flow at least the hinge part of the flap. But of course Elon knew that right after the first orbital test…

  7. So if the ISS is decommissioned in 1930 and Boeing Starliner – for the time being – is not expected to launch crew to ISS until 2025 or 2026, that doesn't give them many crew launches for the $4.42 billion which NASA paid them for development of the capsule.

  8. ISS deorbit: you don't "push it down into Earth's gravity well", that would make the orbit eccentric. You simply need to reduce its tangential linear speed. Then it starts to spiral in to a lower orbit matching that angular momentum. If that is low enough to get some atmospheric friction it will find itself in a death spiral.

  10. @8:05 Only 40 to 50 Tones?
    WAI said it was as much as 150 Tones to orbit.
    Anyway, 50 is still enough for Human life support and controls.
    But still no human escape system for this heavily pulblicly subsidized companies private ventures.

  13. So, I’m guessing they will finish the 2nd tower before the next launch and use it for the catch attempt. It’s a bit further away from the tank farm if they RUD the catch attempt.

    The tower doesn’t need everything a launch tower does, just the catch arms & winch.

  14. Call the first tower Barad-dûr and the new tower Orthanc, the twin towers!

    I would design the rocket with a telescopic structure, featuring inner and outer tubes in nested cylindrical sleeves, allowing it to expand and contract in length. Similar to an expanding aerial, this design lets the rocket function like a caravan that grows in size upon reaching its destination. In its compact form, the rocket is solid and aerodynamic, suitable for launch and flight. If the nose cone were made slightly larger in diameter than the rocket, it could slide down onto the rocket and clamp in place. In space, this nose cone could slide up, extending the length of the rocket and exposing more of the rocket cylinder. The now exposed part could have any shaped door that was not previously exposed to space. This transformation allows the rocket to shift from a transportation vehicle to its intended functional design, with modular compatibility enabling attachment and detachment of different modules, enhancing its versatility and functionality. When the mission requires, the sleeves can retract, restoring the rocket to its compact form for further travel or re-entry, ensuring both versatility and safety throughout the mission. Additionally, in the presence of debris or meteors, the delicate entrances to the interior are shielded by the more robust outer shell.

    As for the flaps, they should be eliminated to simplify the design. The nose cone should not simply be round but should start with a tip, then form into an oval shape, and then back to fit the round shape of the rocket. This means the nose cone will act like a wing. By spinning the cone on its axis, it can divert the flow of the atmosphere to control the flight path.

  15. Looks like the Sharships shown have been through a lot – there are a bunch of dings and dents (possibly some due to where something may have been attached inside) E.g. at the two isolated bolts on the untiled portion at [7:18] and top of the cylindrical portion at [8:42]

  16. I'm sure SpaceX, in collaboration with TESLA, could build something 100x better than VIPER for 450mil. And, I'm sure it would look incidentally better as well. I wish they'd pick it up.
