Ayat 27:
In this verse, Maryam (Mary) returns to her people carrying her newborn son, Isa (Jesus). The people are shocked and accuse her of having committed a grave sin, as they cannot understand how she could have a child without being married. They exclaim, “O Mary! You have certainly done a horrible thing!” This verse sets the stage for the miraculous event where Isa, still an infant, will speak to defend his mother and declare his prophethood.
Ayat 28:
In this verse, the people of Maryam (Mary) address her with astonishment and reproach. They say, “O sister of Aaron! Your father was not an indecent man, nor was your mother unchaste.” By calling her the “sister of Aaron,” they are referring to her lineage, as Aaron was a respected figure among the Israelites. The people are emphasizing that Maryam comes from a noble and pious family, known for their righteousness and chastity. They are bewildered and cannot understand how someone from such a virtuous background could have a child without being married.
Ayat 29:
In this verse, Maryam (Mary) responds to the accusations and astonishment of her people by pointing to her newborn son, Isa (Jesus). The people are bewildered and exclaim, “How can we speak to someone who is an infant in the cradle?” They find it impossible to believe that a baby could provide any explanation or defense. This verse sets the stage for the miraculous event where Isa, still an infant, will speak to defend his mother and declare his prophethood.
Ayat 30:
In this verse, the infant Isa (Jesus) miraculously speaks from the cradle to defend his mother, Maryam (Mary). He declares, “Indeed, I am a servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.” This proclamation is extraordinary as it comes from a newborn, affirming his divine mission and the special status granted to him by Allah. Isa’s words serve as a powerful testament to his prophethood and the truth of his miraculous birth.
Ayat 31:
In this verse, the infant Isa (Jesus) continues to speak from the cradle, declaring, “And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah (charity) as long as I live.” Isa emphasizes that Allah has blessed him and made him a source of blessing wherever he goes. He also highlights the importance of prayer and charity, which are fundamental aspects of his mission and life. This verse underscores Isa’s role as a prophet and his commitment to fulfilling the commands of Allah throughout his life.
Ayat 32:
In this verse, the infant Isa (Jesus) continues to speak from the cradle, emphasizing his dutifulness towards his mother, Maryam (Mary). He says, “And He has made me dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant.” Isa highlights the importance of being kind and respectful to one’s parents, a value deeply rooted in Islamic teachings. He also mentions that Allah has not made him arrogant or defiant, underscoring his humility and righteousness. This verse further establishes Isa’s character and the divine guidance he has received.
Ayat 33:
In this verse, the infant Isa (Jesus) continues to speak from the cradle, saying, “And peace is on me the day I was born, the day I die, and the day I will be raised back to life.” Isa’s words highlight the divine peace and blessings bestowed upon him at three significant moments: his birth, his death, and his resurrection. This verse emphasizes the special status of Isa and the tranquility granted to him by Allah throughout his life and beyond.
